Is there anyway to tell where an email SENDER is coming from?

I have some guy who is trying to scam me and I have a thought that he is local and not in Miami where he claims.

I know I can find the server where the email came from, but not the original IP.

Any idea?

1px image in an email. If his email client lets him view images, it could give you his ip.

Check the headers for his ip.

AFAIK every free email (except gmail) will show you the original sender's ip. So will lots of other servers, so check the headers.

Gmail will let you do it also. Click the down arrow next to "reply" then click "show original"

Seeing the IP doesn't necessarily mean you can verify the location, the person could be coming through a proxy...

I meant to imply that when you send an email from Gmail, your home computer's ip is not sent in the header. With the other free providers, it is.

Sorry for the bad wording.
