I don't think you can say, what is the one thing. With every surfer being totally different, it all comes down to having content that fulfills whatever fantasy he is having at the moment OR you are able to create for him. This is where micro niched content and marketing comes into play.
From a producers standpoint, I bow to a company like Brazzers or Met-Art who shoots INCREDIBLE looking content. However, from a personal standpoint, I would not pay for that shit if it was the only content on the internet, as it does nothing for me. I prefer true amateur and homemade content over everything else. Live cams come after that.
Ask this question to 100 people, get 100 different answers, though I think one common thread you will find is, whatever you are selling, it is probably best to only be able to find it on your site. So with that said, I believe there is something to be said about true, exclusive content that is true to the niche it is in.

You will always get different answers from people, it's about fitting as many needs as possible.
Yes exclusive is good. If it's different, good and special from what's on 100s of other sites. If it's not then it's no help. Sadly too many thought it was just about putting up another scene that was no different from what the site had.
And that costs money.

90% of the webmasters are completely clueless to what customers want now a days, much less how to shoot or get it. They shoot based on the old methodology which will not fly in 2009.
Unless the photographer, webmaster, model, or program owner is talkin to a lot of members, customers, patrons and free loaders. They have no idea.

Hence the silly push for HD videos on the web (by webmasters). I've yet to meet a guy who can't beat off to a SD video, especially a big one that is well encoded.
One of the dumbest comments I see when a new site opens without HD videos is, "great site, too bad it's not HD." Those webmasters need to find a new line of work because they are WAY outta touch with consumers.

True.
I'd rather watch 320 by 240 badly encoded Jules Jordan vids, then some 1280 by 1024 boring-ass crap. HD quality has NEVER been something that catches my eye.
Just make scenes with hot girls, preferably outnumbering sausages, spray them with oil, shoot from good angle. What's so hard about that?
Ok, what is the most IMPORTANT thing in content to get sales?
tell all
Spend $$ on the shoot if your going to compete in a competitive niche. Or film a micro niche and be happy with the couple of joins you get a day. Trouble with content these days is that RK, Brazzers, FuckyouCash, PinkVisual, BangBros, etc. started spending big money per scene. This forced everybody to step their game.
Good question - I am not a huge fan of backgrounds etc but of the girl's enthusiasm and overall appearance. I have seen some amazing amateur content that was shot from home all because it was real and everyone was into it. Far to often people hire/shoot girls/couples etc that you know are faking it or seeing dollar signs in their eyes.
Another situation is that creativity - fetish's aren't considered. Don't copy someone else but recognize the market and what sells - most of the time it may not be what you personally like. I could go on but don't want to capitalize the thread
Amateur homemade stuff was working well the last time I pushed anything.
During a huge sales drop I asked several surfers to pick sites that they like - the majority older type with credit cards seemed to prefer next door girls, amateur hardcore, user submitted stuff.
Younger people with less money were opting more towards glamor / professional pornstars
This was by no means was a scientific study because obviously money can be made both ways.

The ammount of cash spent on the Dancing Bear scenes must be crazy but hell, it's diffrent and it sells. Shows that a unique idea is always good to go
Girls looking like they LOVE doing porn... not there until they get paid sort of attitude. Should give them acting lessons or something some of them are so horrible..

Your preaching to the choir on that one. I have said the exact same thing, and not a single member or patron, or a poster on boards I read are demanding HD. They have a lot of demands. HD is not one of them.

I agree a unique idea with $$ on the shoots is the way to make money these days. I used to think that traffic is the most important element of success online, but these days the content is driving the traffic.
