I have a question about Birthers / Bobby Jindal / Mitt Romney.

How on earth will these guys make it through a Republican primary season?

-Jindal's parents are both Indian, and he was conceived in India.

-Romney is a Mormon and his father was born in Mexico.

At what point do Palin, Pawleny, and Huckabee point the birthers at these two?

Jindal is a serious creep. You should see the ads he ran on tv here, terrible. The guy was born Hindu, converted to Catholicism, and has claimed to heal sick people with religion.

Its like nobody wants to be Governor of Louisiana, and so they elected him.

He's kind of odd -- the exerocisms and all, and then the whole "bobby" thing.

Also, the no abortions in case of rape or incest.

However, this thread is really about Romney and Jindal's chances of national office.

If 50% of republicans are birthers, I don't see these two guys being able to thwart people going after their ethnicity / religion. Huckabee had no problem going after Romney's Mormonism with full page ads.

I'd say in 2016 there might be a real shot for a self-funded libertarian candidate... someone with at least 350 MM to burn.

However, I'd also say evangelicals are too strong a force and probably wouldn't get on board a "real" libertarian candidate.

Jindal is one of the sickest politicians out there right now.

He firmly believes if your teen daughter is raped, she (and her family) must be forced to raise the child and is 100% against all abortions, even in cases where the death of the mother exists.

Many politicians hold odd beliefs but this hindu turned catholic should strike fear into all true Americans. He is bringing his twisted middle east views on shit and weaving them in with catholicism, and wants to force teenagers whove been raped and impregnanted by family members to carry the child full term and raise it.

he is prime example of why we should not let the religious control our laws and country.

The GOP is similar to many churches...

Do as I say and not as I do.

If one of their guys or gals isn't qualified, they'll just try to re-write the Constitution.

To them, your nationality is only an issue if you could have been born in Africa or you're middle eastern. If either of those are true, then you're the anti-Christ.

Am I wrong? It may be middle eastern for all I know...

When I think middle eastern, I think Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, etc.

India is such a large country with such a large population that I just consider it India and don't group it with any other countries. Maybe Pakistan since they share a border... And Sri Lanka because they share some water. Err, I dunno.

Jindal's story of meeting Lee in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina was questioned following the speech, as Jindal was not in New Orleans at the time.

Its all good, I just think he has some serious issues, especially against women. He thinks an adult has no right to transport their child outside of Louisiana to get an abortion and actually wants to stop you from being able to do so. He has cosponsored bills for this.

The type of mind that follows through with such thoughts is deadly to freedom in America.

Imagine if your teenage daughter was raped. He wants to stop you (by force/law) from taking her to a state to have an abortion! This is not american.

Not sure, I just saw Jindals name in thread title and wanted to post so others can dig up the dirt on this demon exorcising cultist.

As someone whos family lost their homes in Hurricane Katrina if there is one thing I cannot stand is the politicians who used it to gain national coverage when they werent even HERE!!!

And then he has the nerve to lie on national TV about "being here in the aftermath with the local sheriff helping out people in my hometown?" HE WAS NOWHERE NEAR THIS TOWN!

He was miles away in a safe house in another state while my family was riding out the storm and watching their homes be destroyed. For him to grandstand on TV like a hero talking about the neighborhood I grew up in like he was down here helping really hits me in the chest. My family has been in Southeast Louisiana since before this was even called the United States, I despise him.

Romney has a better chance than Jindal. The republican party sold their souls to the christian right and now they are paying for it. Without them they have a difficult time winning elections. People like Palin and Huckabee appeal the christian conservatives, but they are too far right to get enough independents to win in the more progressive states. If the economy is in the crapper in 4 years Romney can run on the business platform and he might be able to get enough independents to offset the loss of the right wingers who don't want a Mormon. Jindal on the other hand has a lot to overcome. Maybe the far right would like him because of his abortion stance and that he is born again, but to get them it might be hard to go back to the middle enough to get the independents. Obama was able to cash in on the minority vote, I think he will still carry them again which mean Jindal has to convince conservative white people to vote for him and I don't think he can. Like Palin he comes off as a fake when he speaks, it is like he is doing a bad characterization of what he thinks a "folksy" person should be.

The next election is in Obama's hands If the economy is doing well and he hasn't bankrupted us with a crazy health care bill he will win re-election and it won't matter who runs against him. If the economy is doing worse and we get a health care bill that sucks he could be vulnerable, but I'm not sure the republican party will have picked up the pieced enough to make a serious run.

The more they make this mainly b.s. case against Obama, it will turn around and bite Jindal in the ass. The Birther's have built a whole apparatus with nut cases like Orly and Keyes, they need new conspiracies to pay the bills.

It depends. Every week Romney is out giving speeches and doing the little things that it takes to win an election. He is out shaking hands and commenting and working in the battleground states. It doesn't matter if people remember him next year, what matters is that when the election comes around the people in the battleground states know is name. He has a lot of money so if he wants to make a serious run he can. It doesn't mean that he will win, but he could easily get out into the public eye again.

Palin, however, is known, but pretty much for all the wrong reasons.

Mitt is the ultimate: rich, handsome, successful record as a governor and CEO, and Kennedy-like in his bearing and appearance. He's truly got it all.

Completely ignoring the questions per usual.

Mitt has an awful record as an absentee governor, and he's about as far from Kennedy as you can get now. Although, not too long ago Willard was busy trying to out-Kennedy Teddy Kennedy, as a friend to teh gheys; however, now he made a parody of himself with his RNC speech.

At least Jindal is actually trying to govern LA so far.

However, the stances aren't the point. Given the substantial following the Birther movement has within grassroots "conservatives" I don't see how either of these guys makes it.

It's gotta feel bad for Romney, his dad was almost president back when Religion didn't seem to matter as much(Especially given Ike was Jehovah's Witness up until the oath of office). Now, as a Mormon he doesn't stand a chance as an R .
