I have always used Kaspersky for Anti-Virus, and Webroot Spysweeper for anti spyware protection, neither of the two try to take over you system and slow it down like norton does.

Kaspersky also makes an all in one program, Kaspersky Internet Security, which is also pretty good....some people don't like having multiple programs for protection. ![]()

I've never used any, without issued.

With that said, when dealing w/ virus / spyware problems, I always found Webroot Spysweeper was miles beyond the rest - in terms of price, reasonable resource usage, and infrequent false positives.. |

I've been using symantec for years and am pleased with it. Unlike Norton it doesn't have bloat - just does the job. Also, get updates whenever something happens, some of the free ones are just once a week.

AVIRA and the word "blow" is the only truth in that reply. AVIRA have the most False-posetives of all the softwares I have tested, and its proactive protection is useless.

The most important part if any anti-virus/malware software is to prevent the computer from being compromised. AVIRA fail miserably in that department |

symantec, it is an improved version of Norton. So good you cannot buy it, you need to buy it in bulk, I think minimum is 8 licenses.

I had the free stuff, avira etc. Tried to defuse a virus for days on end. Installed symantec. First run he removed 35 instances of infected files, second time 2 more and it was over. I am very happy with it. |

For me, the best antivirus is this Webroot Spy Sweeper, This is by far the most reliable protection software I have ever used for the PC. It finds things that others miss. Easy to install and use, even for beginners.

I dont give a fuck about what you THINK or what some PAID blog told you to think. Its absolutely worthless when it comes to protection against anything. Set up a honeypot and you will see it finds viruses where there arent any + it dont even come close to preventing your pc from getting compromiced.

if you get too many false positives you can turn down the heusteristic detection level, false positives are a play off against detection of unknown viruses, it's up to you but i've never found it a problem. as far as being what some blog "told me to think" here's some results http://www.virusbtn.com/news/2008/09_02 compiled by independant AV testers http://www.av-test.org/ who i'm guessing have a little more knowledge on AV testing than you. out of that list of AV programs, avira came top for malware detection. so what do you advise as the best? |

The most important ability in a security software, is the proactive ability. And AVIRA is simply not a secure software. In most cases it wont find the malware before the client PC is compromiced. Avast is a good free alternative, and the only free anti-virus software I would reccomend people to install. But if you want a secure program, you need to pay |
