Headed San Diego way

We are riding down the coast this weekend and would like to find something nice for a couple nights on the beach.

I don't really care where. Anywhere between Oceanside and San Diego works. Any recommendations or should I just wait and see what is there when we get there?

TIA

I'd like to get a little closer to the beach.

Thought about Hotel del Coronado, but only briefly. We aren't going to the hotel for the hotel experience. Just a place to park the bike and set up the laptops. My son has a timeshare on the beach in Carlsbad, but naturally they are booked this weekend.

So, off the wall and on the beach is what I seek. We are going down to the border for sure, so anywhere between there and Oceanside.

Bump for more suggestions.

Not seeking resort. Am seeking pleasant view. Think surfer vs pimp.

Loew's Coronado is really nice

L'Auberge in Del Mar is beautiful (I used to live by this hotel)

The Hilton on Mission Bay is a pretty popular "water" hotel in SD, but Mission Bay just stinks in the summer (literally it smells like a cesspool) - so I would avoid.

Loew's looks nice, but does no one ever "slum it" around here?

pricey and likely booked but right on the beach next to the pier in PB, a block off of both main strips, awesome views, swanky...

I know a cheap place in Pacific Beach, it's a block from the beach, just south of La Jolla. Walking distance to the bars. It's called Sea Coast Palms Inn.

Try this one, probably booked though, off the main beach strip, Mission Blvd, close to all the bars.

That is precisely what I was hoping for, but they have a three night minimum and we will only be there for two.

Will remember it for the future though.

kinda off topic but if ya got time for some fun roads, veer over through palomar on the way down, you prolly already know bout it but just in case-

Palomar Mountain is one of the most favored and challenging roads for motorcycles in Southern California. It is located on Highway 76 East of the Interstate 15. There are 2 roads to get to the top of Palomar, the S6 (South Grade) and the S7 (East Grade).

No problem. Just keep in mind it is not a resort, it's a motel. It should run you about $60-80 a night. It sits only a block away from several $400/night resorts. (It's also about 3 blocks from Crystal Pier which was posted above)

The Sunday buffet at the Del Coronado is to die for...

During one trip to San Diego, I really enjoyed a stay at the L' Auberge Del Mar.

Many great places to stay and dine at in San Diego.

We will be taking the dresser, so "challenging" isn't really on the menu. I suspect we will cruise the coast for a day or so, then maybe hit the vineyards in Temecula. Might drop into Baja if she remembers to bring her passport.

$129, and I am not looking for a resort. We will be riding and taking pictures more than hanging at a hotel/motel/resort.

So I've heard. I have a feeling that is going to be what we do before heading home.

She is quite allergic to shellfish, so will have to find some other distraction.
