Building new video computer with i7 - These specs work?

Many of you have given me advice on a system to build and after looking around all over, these are the parts I have at my disposal. I'm wanting a bad ass video rendering machine than can handle HD if need be with no problem.

Intel Core i7-920 2.66
Asus LGA 1366 L3 Cache 8mb
Asus EPU
Intel X58 chipset
3-way SLI & Quad-GPU Cross FireX
12g DDR3
Nvidia GTX285
1000w Power Supply - Can also get 700w if 1000w is too much.

I'm not one for making my own system so much of that means squat to me. I have just been looing for the parts so many of you reccomdneed to me. Some of them they have, others were a step down.

Do you think this would make a good system or should I special order in some parts, like the faster i7? Or is there anything else that should be upgraded?

Thanks!

Get multiples on the vid card since you have SLI cap.

Make sure you RAID0 up the drives also for some speed.

PS3 w/Linux + CodecSys CE-10

It's been benchmarked to outperform the latest i7s by a large amount, especially in regards to HD.

Aside from the Asus components yeah ;) I swore off Asus as every single motherboard (4) that I've had from them has had issues... They're horrible to deal with and their products suck. I used to be a huge Asus fan and the first two times I was like.... bad luck... the third time I swore off Asus but bought one the fourth time anyway... now I've sworn them off for good and my PC life has been much happier!

I started out a Mac guy. Had a bunch of them. They just crashed all the time. So I moved to PC.

Then I *almost* bought another Mac about 3 months ago but backed out at the last minute.

What you have listed there looks good but make sure you buy a good quality power supply such as this one... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703022

If you want to save yourself some headaches later on I'd check the s.m.a.r.t. status on the HDD once you get it, and check the ram for errors too. It's not uncommon for HDD and ram to have errors out of the box, happens often no matter which brand you buy. Especially HDD, most online stores ship OEM which means it's not packaged correctly. If you can find a retail boxed drive you'll have better chances of getting a good drive.
