What's really sad about 3 dead celebs...

This past week saw the passing of three famous celebrities.

One was a war veteran (a 6-times decorated Air Force pilot during WWII) who served his country not only in the military, but as a beloved TV entertainer alongside Johnny Carson, selfless charity volunteer for MDA - and who helped 'discover' many of today's music artists on his own show Star Search.

Another was a beauty queen - turned poster girl - turned actress who inspired millions in the end with her courage and tenacity against a vicious disease that eventually claimed her.

And oddly enough - the third was an alleged pedophile with bizarre tendencies who died leaving behind three kids and a massive debt. Yet his death and 'accomplishments' receives the VAST majority of news coverage.

There's a whole lot of truth in what you've said there.

Yeah I completely agree. I don't really understand the fuss about any of them, but the fact that MJ gets most of the fuss is disturbing to say the least.

To be honest, I'm not sad they are gone. They have lived lives that most of us can only dream of ever living.
I'm sad about the young kids who have and will give their lives while serving in the military and those who have suffered major life changing traumas while serving

What is sad that we care more about that than our freedoms being taken away from us. Or is it that the MSM just wants to take our focus off the fact that our freedoms are fleeting.

Even if you don't like Michael Jackson you would have to be a complete fucking moron not to acknowledge the massive positive affect he has had on people all around the world.

But hey carry on with your OCD type behavior and just remember nobody will be talking about you when you die.

Agreed, however, McMahon was not an Air Force (decorated 6 times pilot.) get your facts to be a bit more accurate if you want the entire post to be thought as such.

Micheal's impact on the world was least to say, impressive. Pop will have a hard time finding a replacement.

Why is MJ still on CNN?
This is what CNN thinks is important? I always thought of CNN as high brow.

                      Long live Peter Jennings.

Marine Corp - I stand corrected.

However, as an ex-military Canuck myself...I'm accustomed to pilots as being Air Force.

It's not that complicated. The news is part of the entertainment business, and as an entertainer, MJ was the most talented of the 3 by oceans. My friend Raul died last week too in a motorcycle accident. He was talented too but not famous. May they all rest in peace.

My condolences over the loss of your friend.

"Talent" is a subjective term, open to interpretation.

Yes, Jackson was talented (or at least his talents appealed to a large audience wanting to be entertained).

However - serving your country by piloting an aircraft in a theatre of war also requires a large amount of talent, ability and courage...and IMO worthy of at least the same level (if not more) of respect and admiration. By all accounts, MacMahon was a good and decent man who lived a respectable life. He never dangled babies off balconies or molested children.

I can appreciate that not everyone would agree, since it is subjective as I said. But I'm also quite sure I'm not alone in this thinking.

Michael on the other hand ... grew up with his music and his music has had more of an impact of the world than probably every other musician except maybe Elvis .. so of course people give a crap about him.

The really sad thing about three dead celebs........... is all the other celebutards who are still alive.

But seriously - is that the best you can do?

                                                  I mean...your very best?

Maybe during recess you can practice and come back to try again.

Many reasons. MJ was exponentially more famous than the other two, and will continue to be because music has more currency than old tv shows. Equally important is that Fawcett and MacMahon's deaths were more or less expected. Fawcett had been ill for awhile and MacMahon was a very old man. MJ was relatively young and his death came amidst plans for a worldwide tour. We also know how the other two died but the unknown circumstances of Jackson's death are yet another bizarre chapter in his legacy.

                                                          Plausible - good points.

But then again Jackson's career began dwindling in the late 80s and he's only really remained in the public spotlight because of his bizarre antics and behavior.

Michael on the other hand ... grew up with his music and his music has had more of an impact of the world than probably every other musician except maybe Elvis .. so of course people give a crap about him.

What makes me laugh is idiots who feel the need to tell the world how they they hated MJ just to feel all important and get attention for themselves.
You've never even heard of Farrah Fawcett or Ed McMahon?

                                                            Let's see - you're either under 20 or live in a cave?

I didn't read hatred into the first post in this thread. But rather a lament as to why Jackson seems to be getting the major spotlight over two other celebs who lived much cleaner and decent lives (one of which was a war hero).

I tend to agree with Silentknight here. Respect is respect - it doesn't go out of style just because of a person's age or contemporary relevancy. McMahon and Fawcett did more in their lives to earn a greater level of overall respect and the general media does seem to be overlooking this to a degree.
