Pot will never be legalized in the USA or Canada and here's why

Why won't pot get legalized?

Same reason capitalism exists.

All political systems discriminate against some people. The reason capitalism works is cause it discriminates against stupid and lazy people. Why is it ok to discriminate against stupid and lazy people? Cause the second a stupid and lazy person gets up and does something to stop the discrimination they are no longer stupid and lazy. The harder they work and the better they get at it (smarter) the less they are stupid and lazy and then they don't care about the other stupid and lazy people cause they aren't stupid and lazy anymore.

That's the same reason pot won't get legalized. Sure weed is fun but the fact is it's a demotivating drug. The extent of the VAST majority of potheads attempts to legalize pot is posting on message boards getting support from other potheads or attending rallies. Fact is both are just way of making them feel accepted and cause no real change. It's just herding instinct.

You want change? It's not gona happen bitching on a message board looking for other people to validate your habit. It's not gona happen holding hands and singing kum-by-ya outside the legislature buildings smoking pot while you do it. It will require INTELLIGENT work. And although some very bright people smoke pot, fact is pot demotivates you and only makes you THINK you are smarter by making your subconscious more relevant. when you sober up you realize most of what you thought about on pot was garbage.

Take it for what it is, a recreational high. One of the better things about it is that it IS illegal. for the minimal effects this drug has, adding the element of illegality to it makes it a LOT more exciting than it really is.

and here's the funny thing, pot is legalized in MANY places where it is otherwise illegal for medical purposes. Why is that? cause it legitimately DOES add appetite, and for people that NEED that it's not a matter of singing kum-by-ya but it's a matter of a real medical need to either relieve nausea or add appetite, those people are motivated to fix those problems. motivation causes change, demotivating drugs are doomed to stay illegal for recreational purposes.

and for those who are high and don't understand what I'm saying, i'll be more clear.

I'm not saying it's wrong to smoke pot. I'm saying it demotivates you if used for other than medical reasons. This is often a good thing when one needs to relax. but it will make it almost impossible to legalize pot in north america

some places are more tolerant than others, but it is illegal in all places to my knowledge in north America cept for medical reasons.

that just means the cops let you go, or if they do charge you, the judge lets you go or gives you a small slap on the wrist.

the cop and the judge STILL have the right to charge you if they so choose though......

SleazyDream I get your point and you have a very good one. However money is motivation, and there is a lot of money to be made off pot. People who do no not smoke pot such as myself would still like to see it legalized purely to reap the financial benefits of it.

there is more money in illegal pot though, legalizing it will make the price drop to close to cigarettes, which requires it to be large farmed taking money from thousands of small growers and into the hands of larger corporations. you will get less variety too

Rhode Island state legislature overrides veto of Governor to allow for medical "Compassion centers" - http://www.rilin.state.ri.us/News/pr1.asp?prid=5792

There is a Committee hearing on the medical marijuana bill, House Bill 1380 in North Carolina today at 12 noon.

The attitude towards pot is changing. Baby steps... ;)

No, SD, I hear what you're saying. I'm saying that the overall attitude toward pot has and is changing that's all.

Personally, I don't want the fed's hands all over my marijuana. I'm one of the cannabis users who DOESN'T want weed fully legal lol. The government would just regulate the THC%, the processing of it, the chemical additives, etc. Fuck that. I don't want them to touch my fucking herb.

I prefer to keep buying my weed from the same guy I've been buying it from for years. I've personally never had a MJ conviction in 20+ years of use, so I don't see myself getting one anytime soon. Plus, here in N.C. it's partially decriminalized anyway. Up to 1/2 Oz. is just like a parking ticket pretty much.

If the pigs in Washington could figure out a way to tax the majority of pot sales it would be legalized at some point. It's all very simple.

Bleh, they're making way more money keeping it illegal. Who do you think takes the dirty money to let it across the border? Who do you think puts MJ that they've "confiscated" back on the streets? Don't think they haven't thought of a million different ways to make money off the legalization of MJ. They just don't because it brings them revenue, first and foremost. Secondly, you got every big tobacco and big alcohol lobbyist in D.C. saying "NOOOOOO!!!!!!! That'll fuck up our profits yo!" Not to mention that more and more prisons in the U.S. are becoming privately owned. They don't make money without prisoners. It's in their best interest to lock as many of us up as they can lol, so they're screaming "No!" too about legalization.

Then think about the money they make off court fees and fines. The "stamp tax" that some states (including mine) they will tack on to your MJ charges. Man you're talking about billions of dollars in revenue that they already take in.

Prohibition is big money for the government.

Your analysis is off.

Marijuana is not a 'demotivating' drug, but rather a programming one. Hence is why the FBI requirements state clearly that one cannot join the ranks if use of said drug was for an extended period in any time of one's life.

In any event, one has to be careful of the influences and perceptions of others surrounding them when under the influence of marijuana. For extended periods, behavioral synchronization can occur, for better or for worse.

I agree, the whole tirade of "march to the Washington to legalize pot" is bullshit.

Only people who are too busy smoking pot and justifying their habit even think about "legalizing pot" - if they're so high every other day does it really discriminate them, that pot is illegal?

Give the potheads the internet and they'll find each other and dominate, so many words, so much stoned knowledge and no reason for any of that.

A few years ago I read that 90% of domestic violence cases involve alcohol.

A good number of people (especially young people), die every year from alcohol poisoning..

There are deadly car accidents every day, as a direct result from drunk driving.

Alcohol is legal.

There are ZERO health benefits from cigarettes, and smoking leads to hundreds of thousands of health-related deaths every year. Nicotine is highly addictive - mentally and physically.

Cigarettes are legal.

Junk food provides almost no nutritional value, and greatly increase people's risk for diabetes, and many other health related problems.

Junk food is legal.

Number of deaths p/year from marijuana overdoses: 0

I am not totally defending pot here, as I think making it legal will not help our lazy, fat society very much, but decriminalizing it makes some sense, as does regulating it's sale to some extent (to reduce drug gang's profits), as does offering it for medical reasons.

That's my 2 cents anyway...

my issue with legalizing pot is when the people in favor of it try to convince us its harmless. Its not. The amount of tar in it far exceeds that of cigarettes. And its effects build up over time - ever wonder why its normally pretty obvious whos been a hardcore stoner for the last 10-20 years? Sure, people who use it rereationaly (not as often) as the hardcore stoners wont see those effects, but then again, occasional/social drinkers dont have the same liver problems as alcoholics.

I totally disagree. There are many more demotivating things in life, that could affect anyone. I don't know anyone who smoked a joint (or ten thousand) and spun their life out of control. It was things like family deaths, divorces, loss of job, loss of bodily function, depression, illness, addiction to other drugs, alcoholism, relationship problems. Oh, and laziness.

Those things are demotivating.

Smoking joints has helped many people AVOID spinning out of control from the above things.

When it comes down to it, the amount of work you do and your ability to remain focused to achieve goals is what determines whether you got your stuff done or not. How you get there is up to you. Some people it's caffeine, some it's money, some it's necessity, and for many it's weed. Make of it what you will and make your own choices. Having less opinions about how other people live their lives is something we can all aspire to be better at. Of all people, we should know this.

Now here's some good weed lyrics. ;)

Doom nominated for the best rolled L's
And they wondered how he dealt with stress so well
Wild guess? You could say he stay sedated
Some say buddha'd, some say faded
Someday pray that he would grow a farm barn full
Recent research show it's not so darn harmful (true)
Sometimes you might need to detox
It can help you with your rhyme flow and your beatbox
Off spite to your surprise
Turn a Newport Light to a joint right before your eyes
Tear a page out the good book, rollit how you want it
{"America's most blunted!"} -- MF Doom

As if all the productive hard working office people who smoke weed are stupid enough
to be caught on camera at a pot rally.

Why not go to work and root for OJ during the murder trial too?

But the point really is this :

If weed was going to destroy America it would have done it years ago since this
place is flooded with weed. Dealers haven't been able to raise their prices in 2 decades
because there is so much available.

So the war on drugs did as good as the war on mosquitos....FAIL!

How much longer do we keep spending money on something that we could just
produce and make money from instead. We are only making foreign thugs richer
with our policy and we see them now in a full war in Mexico with over 10k killings
in the last year. We gave them that power by keeping pot illegal.

It's 100% a cultural issue since the shit causes no medical harm worthy of notice.
When governments try to legislate culture they become the Taliban.

Why do you give a shit if some pot head is lazy; more money for you to make without
his competition. And if he didn't have pot he'd just be drunk anyway.
Lazy motherfuckers are lazy; don't try to blame it all on pot.

I'm not saying it's wrong to smoke pot. I'm saying it demotivates you if used for other than medical reasons. This is often a good thing when one needs to relax. but it will make it almost impossible to legalize pot in north america
and for those who are really, really high?

So you are arguing both sides of this debate now?

How do we know you are not high right now?

Have you been eating the deadly brownies again?
