we did a marketing campaign last april, just message boards and press releases, and had the below results

look at the period of time after the spike, in the SE graph there lots of little spikes (attributed for people searching for our company name in google)

so i would assume that due to the boards or press releases, people keep searching for our name to find us, but why isnt the direct traffic graph experiencing spikes as well?

Your listing has 2 parts.. the title and the description. If they suck, people don't click. It's amazing how many people miss this and have the description be some shitty paragraph that google just found on your page.

Direct traffic had a spike close to the time after you made the press release. This is normal. Why do you expect to see repeated spikes?

The SE traffic is such a low amount that it's not having little spikes at all, you're just seeing the differences between 5 searches one day, and 10 the next. It looks like a huge spike, but with such low volumes it's clearly an illusion.

Dig down further and look at referring sites in detail, may help you figure out what you need to know. Like everyone else is saying though... your buzz traffic is gone. Good luck.

yea, it was the spikes, the scale looked weird, but the amount is very low so the spikes look large

Because they remembered what your site is about, and not its URL.

So indeed they tryed to reach your site again, but they did it only through Google. Most of the people behave like this.
