I always see people comment about sites and shit and always say "wow looks great" or "awesome idea wish i thought of it" but most times its the same shit different color so just wondering if anyone ever just wanted to post the truth?

lol, WELL, a while back a buddy was all excited about something he'd gotten into and he wanted to show me. I took a look at it briefly and congratulated him. We kept talking for a while and during the conversation I took a little closer look...not in depth mind you, but a little closer. I told him what I thought, it looked really good, but...(then I told him a few things that might concern me if I were him). This was all on icq btw, so I wasn't even dissing him in public.
He got super pissed and really defensive about it. I reiterated that I had just done a surface scan of what he showed me and my concerns COULD be completely unfounded, but at first glance, that's what I saw. lol, he tore a strip off of me. We argued for a while longer, him calling me arrogant, me AGAIN saying, I COULD be wrong, but that's what I saw, until we finally agreed to disagree.
I'm of the school that a REAL friend tells you the TRUTH. I'd rather a friend tell me something looks like shit and stop me from making a mistake than telling me something looks GREAT and me falling flat on my face. REAL friends want to here the bad along with the good. Whatever. If you don't want an honest opinion, don't ask. If you want a superficial cheerleader response to something, don't ask me.Comment

If a site has already been launched, the owner will find out if it's good or not. It doesn't really matter if you bash him or not at that point. Might as well just wish them the best of luck and move on.

I agree and usually do the same. I don't pay empty compliments, if it's not my bag / doesn't strike me I usually just pass on by.
That being said, "ugly / pretty" is a real thing. Sometimes ugly sites / pages REALLY work. I have seen some ugly pages that look like Geocities 1996 that send sales, so sometimes it's not how slick the design is but how the webmaster works it.

There are a few problems with both being honest and with lying.
Honest: You're honest all the time about everything. You will offend some people. Many people will say bad shit about you because you're honest makes you look like an asshole which in my opinion is stupid.
Lying: People look at you as a person that can't be trusted even though many of your lies are to save certain people from being offended or hurt. You may also look like an asskisser which in most cases you're not. People talk behind your back etc.. etc..
So either way you're screwed.. You basically have to have an even mixture or truth and lies. Of course, the lies should not be anything drastic. Honesty = Respect to me.
If someone isn't honest with me, even though they may be trying to spare my feelings, they aren't helping me and that imo isn't being respectful.
Whether or not I hurt someone's feelings when I tell them the truth, I believe, in the LONG run, sometimes the VERY long run, they'll respect that I WAS honest with them and was TRYING to help them. Those that can't see that will probably never succeed OR be happy in life because they'll spend their time bitching about people being honest with them instead of LISTENING to what they actually have to say.
One caveat to that is marriage.
When the wife asks if she's fat, that's not a good time to be honest and say, "You're a cow honey. You're a cow". If she asks if I want to fuck some hottie, that's not a good time to be honest and say, "Are you kidding? I'd push you off a cliff for a taste of that pussy".
So, in short, in business and friendship...be honest. With the woman you love...lie your ass off.Comment

I understand that, which is why I'm honest about everything even if it makes me look bad. I don't care if people don't like me. I just want to be honest and no live my whole life lying. I know I say to have an even mixture of lies and truth in my last post, but that was just to make my point, but I'm always honest even though, in some cases, it will come back and kick me in the ass. I also want people to be honest with me whether it will hurt my feelings or not. Sure, I may get hurt or mad, but at least they were honest.
As for the woman you love, ya, in that case you're better off lying about many things to avoid her wrath. lol "Do I look fat in these pants?" No honey.. they fit you perfect and accent your beautiful body.. *phew! dodged a bullet there*

See this is my thought, and i liked your post, when you got banned, but now the board is so involved with advertisers that really being honest about things gets in the way of those ad sales, and with fewer and fewer companies buying ads on sites that must translate to the advertiser having more and more pull, so say an advertiser is threatened pissed off etc.
Now if i start a fake nic, lets call it mpahlca2.0 and just rail the shit out of everyone and get massive page views etc. get banned not only would i be helping the site and its advertisers get more traffic, but i would be helping all the others looking for info?I could give two shits wether you read this sig or not.Comment

Ah but let's not forget the flip side to this coin.... there are those who become obnoxiously overly rude and call it honesty.
Someone posts a girl who's not a perfect 10 on this forum and some people take an opportunity to call her the most insulting name they can think of, put down the photographer and try to work in an insult on her mom if they can.... and when someone comments on how rude they are, they go "I'm just being honest"
The difference between "I don't really like that" to "That's most retarded thing I've ever heard of, it's amazing you have the brain power to tie your shoelaces, I hope you die tomorrow" is a pretty wide margin... people seem to think that they can "stretch the truth" as far as they want and still call it the truth but it simply isn't so.Comment
