It can't be so hard *I* managed to code a datalink thingy a few years back when I did porngreen backend as my thesis, and I'm not even a coder..and I SUCK at coding.
I do agree that the time you're allowed to fetch data sucks arse.

posting this seems to have helped because I think I just figured out what my problem is... I wasn't stripping the quotes from the subscription id.

It would still be helpful for clients if ccbill would supply example scripts for using datalink and postback like Netbilling does.
