...awhile back and several people stated that a free FTP program is better. What is the name of the better program?

I have been using Cute FTP for sometime now but either it is kind of fucked up or my host is because it often just kind of hangs there and/or works slowly...so I am ready to try something else.

Just fucking amazing. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best...Cute FTP Pro=3 and FileZilla=10. I really thought it was my host that was fucked up...but no.

It is amazing to me how I can miss programs like that simply because I got into using one program and then never looked around to see if anything better had come along in the meantime.

I use to be a big fan of flashfxp (paid) until I found winscp - the best free program. It can watch files that are open in your editor and automatically upload when you save. No need to transfer the files manually after making changes. I haven't seen any other FTP programs capable of doing that except one that are integrated in whatever IDE you may be using, but those are usually slower and have less features than a full FTP program.

FileZilla is a lot faster but there's one feature on Cute that I can't give up: "lockstep folder navigation". When you're browsing through folders on either the local or remote, if they're named the same the folder on the other side will also get opened. Saves a lot of time for me.

Unless Filezilla has that now? I haven't used it in quite some time.

@viki, synchronized browsing is def nice. Not sure about filezilla, but i know winscp supports it.
