there is no benefit to starting a blog on someone else's domain or sub-domain on their domain where they then put an assload of sitewide links on YOUR pages when you can just set up WP on your own domains and build them up without building up someone elses PR in the process.Comment

I've pulled enough sales over the years off 'free blogs' that I could buy a house with the earnings. This isn't 'instead' of sales or traffic to my own domains, but in addition to it. Of course you try to use respected ones, and ones run buy people or businesses you feel you can trust to leave your stuff, but I've had no issues.
It takes minutes (or pennies) to set up some free sites like this, and really, its foolish to not utilize things like this to push link power into your own sites.
