I have always thought she had pretty average looks and at best had that girl next door appearance. When casting a movie the looks of the person is of the utmost importance and you want the looks to fit the part.

You wouldn't want a butt ugly girl playing a sexy leading lady part, unless that was part of the story line and you wouldn't want a super hot girl playing a plain Jane type part.

You wouldn't cast Megan Fox to play a female President because it would be too distracting but she's perfect for a movie like Transformers.

Most actresses aspire to be on the A list and get the real movies roles but there are very few movies of that caliber that require a beautiful leading lady and usually those roles go to average looking character actors.

The only advantage of being a beautiful actress in Hollywood is that you can land all the B,C,D and porn movie parts you want.

So while what she said seemed blunt, as she admits, it's probably what she's heard time and time again from casting directors and she is just speaking the truth.
