I am very very pumped about this picture, but I do wish they would pick a lead actor with a little more Italian edge and swagger... I also tire of DiCaprio being in every one of his movies.

Oh how I hate DiCaprio, I'd of watched this but DiCaprio puts me off!

I agree he's too clean, I personally don't think he'd be upto the act either.

Scorsese is starting to look gay for Dicaprio. I've seen him talking about some other possible films and he always says Dicaprio would be perfect for the lead role no matter what it is.

I totally though Joaquin Phoenix was miscast as Johnny Cash when i first heard about that but ended up liking the movie and thought he did a good job, so who knows? DiCaprio was a decent Howard Hughes.

Depp looks more like Sinatra than Leo does. He's closer to Sinatra's actual height too( Sinatra 5' 7.5" Depp 5' 10" ) and has the build.

no, and i also avoided most Scorsese movies. i remember him mostly from Titanic and The Man with the Iron Mask. and from those i dont see him playing Sinatra

He fits the bill so well it's almost like a cliche, but I don't think he brings quite enough star power to the table.

With him the movie would be just so-so, maybe a 2 star film. With someone like Depp or Dicapprio it becomes a 3-4 star potential.

Perhaps, but Harry Connick Jr has some actual acting chops too, and I think he would do Old Blue Eyes (aka Old Blue Ass) proud.

He can act, but that's not the star power I'm referring to of course.

He's a good supporting actor, but the director of this movie is probably looking for someone bigger.

See that's the problem, Connick could be the perfect person for it, but for the whole fact that he's not as big as DiCaprio means he's not gonna get the part... How do they expect him to be that big if they don't give him a role he's born for?

DiCaprio is a good actor, there's many movies of his I like (minus Titanic), but you don't cast someone as a star of a movie, because of how big they are, they cast them because of how well they will play the part...

Casting someone based only on their celebrity status could make the movie a complete flop... Ever seen Gili?
