Anyone Else Have Spring Clean Up?

I am not sure if every town, or city has this or not. For me, they do a spring, and fall clean up. Basically, you throw out your old tv's, furniture, boxes to big to fit in garbage, etc.. Saving you a trip to the dump. Unfortunately, it does not include construction material or limbs. I have plenty of both.

My side of town pick up it tomorrow. So I have been watching junk rats coming through the neighborhood all weekend picking through garbage on people's lawn. Even with fucking trailers and shit.

I threw out three twin mattresses that were left when I had bought this house in the fall. Some railing from the stairway removed (now framed, and dry walled) and some other metal from various things torn apart during construction and boxes. I look out there while eating a half an hour ago, and all of it is gone but the boxes.

Damn.

Yeah, construction dude told me that 'back in the day' him and his pals would go around on clean up days and make good money for scrap.

I used to live 2 blocks over, and while you still saw a lot of stuff on side of the road. I can't say I have EVER seen all the hawkin' I have saw this weekend. I mean at one point when I ran to the store for some cat food, they had 3-4 truck/vans lined up down the road going through the shit.

This afternoon I saw a van pulling a trailer that was so full, it looks like it needed to be pulled over because shit was hanging out every which way.

Yeah, we have that here, people drive around in pick-up trucks collecting all the junk. Some of it isn't half bad though.

I figured someone would take the metal. I guess scrap is a big deal now a days.

But the three mattresses were water logged! I had threw them out in the back yard when I moved in. So they had been snow, and rained on for what..... six months?

If somebody else can make use of your junk, I think that's great. Reduce, reuse, recycle.

We did a few weeks back. Put an old hot water heater and clothes dryer I had in the garage out to the road.

Some guy and his wife loaded them both into his VW Jetta. Heater across the back seat with the doors open and the dryer hanging out the back of his trunk.

We watched them from the backyard as they loaded them up and drove off.

Neither worked, but I'm sure they got a few bucks at the dump.

Some friends of mine got a 32" tv this weekend, great picture and everything. I figure the person that tossed it upgraded to an lcd or plasma and didn't want it anymore.
