Is it common for seniors to divorce for social security benefits?

Pretty shitty... $25,000 benefits for an individual, but only $32,000 for a married couple.

I heard that some seniors are divorcing just to beat the shitty system? Any truth to this? I can't find anything online about it.

Don't we pay into Social Security as a single person? Why should marital status impact what we get back out of it in the end?
