prosecuted for other people's shit

Can a webmaster of a site he runs prosecuted for a site he links to?

So if he links to an illegal site, can he be prosecuted?
I hear some people say that is possible, which i think would be extremely weird. If i have 1000 links on my site, how can I check them out everyday if they are legal

Yes, because after all, you see the feds busting google every day.

No, you are not liable for everything you link to. Only if you knowingly posted links to illegal content would they have any kind of case.

It's not a police state yet.

Backov is right - at least for the US.

if you are worried about criminal - you have nothing to worry about - I have never heard a single case of someone getting prosecuted for linking to a site that conatined illegal content - without their knowledge.

If you use a script or something - people can't post child porn - and then make you get in trouble.

As far as civil - it is more complicated, but you will almost always get a warning before they do something - so you can just take anything infringing down after you get the warning.

As long as any infringing links are accidental - you have nothing to worry about. You should also remove any illegal content when it comes to your attention - and report it so you have a record.

if you've got a link on your site "underage girls naked!" and the link leads to underage girls naked, I wouldn't want to be in your shoes.
you're not google.

I wouldn't be too worried about that sort of shit, at worst you'd be asked to stop linking too it. The only time this shit ever happens is when some hacker group REFUSES to remove a link to DECES DVD ripper hosted elsewhere or some other shit where the person sueing has a big cashbook and to many lawyers.

Link to whatever you want except the child stuff and you'll be fine, although best to stay away from beasty stuff too, my New Zealand GOVT found out what sites I ran and I had a link to a beast site and the prick checked my site and told me to remove the link right away. I said "oops sorry wasn't me it was one of our advertisers, we give him access to upload new banners each day and he uploaded a beast banner" he bought it, as they ALL do (No I don't link to beast stuff anymore, but I did when it was bringing in 5 figuires a month, i'm not stupid ya know heh)
