Okay, if this is possible, then WHY THE FUCK ARE TUBES ALIVE STILL?

Some guy started e-mailing me with threats like I WILL FUCK YOUR HOSTING UP IF YOU DONT REMOVE THIS WEBSITEZ ITS MINEZZZ and shit like that.

Apparently, the guy who supposedly designed the site outsourced the work to that pissed off character and didn't pay him. Like I give a fuck? Your problems people.

But guess what, today I notice my hosting account blocked.

I call them up and a guy with an Indian accent is like "we had a copyright issue the guy proved it's his website and you have to pay him yada yada bullshit"

I told the hosting company to go fuck themselves, unlock my account so I can move it and then go fuck themselves again. Initially the guy tried to be tough, but when I asked for his manager he unlocked my account - STANGE HUH?

Now, my account is moved to a secure dedicated server I have.

But let me get this straight - I didn't sign any contracts, nothing, absolutely nothing to tie me in with the "content" or the original designer. I even have no idea how they proved it was their design. Yet, it was possible and the account got taken down.

So my question is, if THIS is possible - WHY THE FUCK are tube sites still alive?

Anyone?

.... or the Indian guy who blocked the account is friends with the original designer. Or this is just a big scam.

Anyway... yes a website designer owns all of his work even after delivering it to you unless stated otherwise in the contract. If he designed the sites and did not get paid you got screwed by the middle man and yes, it is your problem.

Get a hoster that hasnt got indians running the helpdesk.
Nothing against indians, i love them, just that the GOOD hosters hire professional personel to do the problem solving.

Or better, hit up zak from yellowfiber, and your sure to have a qualified hoster.

No way it's his problem. All the poster has to do here is produce a paper trail (emails will work) showing that it was the middleman with whom he dealt and that he paid the middleman. It's that simple.

It's always a good idea to steer clear of mickey mouse hosting companies too.

I don't think it works that way. It might get you an excuse for a moment, but if the middleman didn't have the rights to what he was selling, you are still out of luck in the end.

Just like if you buy a stolen bicycle off of some thief, it doesn't matter if he gave you a receipt, you still have to give up the goods and you get nothing in return.

Yeah, but we're not talking about dealing with a fence, we're talking about a dealing with a facilitator

In this case, there was most certainly some back-and-forth communication between the end customer and the actual designer re design modifications and such. And, by necessity, the middleman filled the role of messenger. Under these circumstances, the customer was not at all out of line in assuming that he paid the correct party. Moreover, I think it's a pretty safe bet that (in the beginning at least) the actual designer thought it was going to play out like that as well.

Now, it's just a question of who gets left holding the bag.
