You dumb asses never cease to amaze me.
It's a great move if:
1) You can retire from porn with enough money to last forever and you just want something fun to do with your time and happen to be an old school skater.
2) If the nearest skate shop was two hours away and your city is FULL of skaters with no local place to buy their boards and parts.
3) You own a skate park and want to add a skate shop to the mix.
4) There are other complex reasons for starting an outside business that you wouldn't understand, otherwise you would not have
at the post. For example, having a legit work visa, having a legit company in a country that allows you to buy land / property when starting a company just for buying land is illegal, or even a non-profit foundation that can lower a persons tax burden by... a lot.
5) You finally realized how horrible and damaging this business is and you have made enough money to do something productive with your life. You realize that the delusional people who work in this industry are not only stupid beyond words, but selfish and bottom feeders of the worst kind and you simply don't want to waste another day of your life with the filth and hangers-ons that this low life business breeds.
I'll let YOU figure out which three are my reasons for researching such a business.Comment

Friend of mine owned a skatepark and had a few parts behind the counter, but he had to close it down last year. Shame because it was the only park around with a foam pit. It was mainly a bike park as the owner rode for Hoffman bikes but they allowed skaters and in-line guys as well. It was more a labor of love than a profit center. If he sold shoes, clothes, etc, it could have been much more profitable, but he wasn't really into the money.
In the U.S., many park districts have built public skate parks, so private ones only work in areas with bad weather or if you build a really awesome one that makes the public ones seem weak.jim (at) amateursconvert . com Amateurs ConvertComment

I know somebody in the industry that has a skate shop. I can send him a link to this thread if you like. I think he is on the road right now though so I don't know when he would be able to reply.Vacares - Web Hosting, Domains, O365, Security & More - Paxum and BTC Accepted

I can't speak about the profitability of owning a skate shop and or a skate park but I will say that it's as popular as ever. My home town in south Florida built a city owned and run skate park with a shop. It gets super crowded when it's not too hot out and it's a great place for the kids to hang out. There's also many skaters in there 30s and 40s.
There are several skate parks scattered around Florida and they are all thriving. Like you said, if you find a location where a skate park is needed the locals will support it and if it's good many will travel to skate it. If you build it they will come.
Here's a video I made of my friends at the city owned skate park

I don't own a shop, but I do run an ad agency that works with about 80 parks all over the US. It is my life away from adult....
http://www.stalefishmedia.com
I love skate park owners...some of the best people I have ever met. They are in business for the right reasons
If any you guys are involved in skating or the action sports community...would love to chat!
PS. The reason for the ad agency is we try to get big brands to spend money on parks...helps out the park owners and the community

Most of the money I have made in my adult life has come from porn, but back in 2006 I opened a small freight expediting business. I know it's not a skate shop, but you mentioned opening a business outside of porn that would be satisfying to you personally, and this was to me, as my father owned a large cargo airline and running freight was always kind of the family business. You dumb asses never cease to amaze me.

I still own my porn sites and I still send a lot of traffic to sponsors, mostly dating, but that expediting business is my pride and joy. Every time I pick up a new contract I beam, and every time I can get out of the office and run a route myself (we own mostly cargo vans and box trucks, although we did recently buy a semi) I am even more happy. I enjoy the porn biz, but knowing that I can be successful at something else is incredibly satisfying...Comment

I love OC because I've always said its the perfect mix of republican and punk rock.
Old money and their fuck up kids, new money and the fuck you attitude.
Business minded individuals that want to have fun. Skate/action sports are big out here.

I'm nowhere near as bad as I used to be. I used to be the kind of guy that would start 100 different things, and have all those oars in the water without actually finishing any of them. Now I have my expediting business and some sites, and everything else I do is just experimenting. If you are talking about the strip clubs and porn stores I used to run, I've been out of that business a few years...Comment

Too many people don't do things they love or satisfy them in some manner. That's great that you do this. It probably helps to keep you balanced and keep a fresh prospective on things.Comment

That's too funny. I was shooting a nightmare of a scene the other day here in Thailand, the model didn't speak a freakin' word of English and she was so dumb she could hardly speak her own language of Thai. She flat out could not stay in one position for more than 30 seconds without trying to move. We have to shoot with the aircon off because they are too loud here. It was at least 100 degrees in the room with the lights on.
At one moment I sat on the couch, put my head down in my hands and actually thought about you and how you probably were shooting some killer scene right now in your studio with a quiet aircon with a hot chick who loved it in the ass and how nice it would be to have the same. Then I wondered how in the hell I ended up here in this god forsaken shit hole doing this.

That's a shame he had to close down, especially if it was a labor of love.Friend of mine owned a skatepark and had a few parts behind the counter, but he had to close it down last year. I've seen a lot of kick ass parks in the USA that were built with state money. Also seen a lot of total crap ones too where they just went for the lowest bid and hired people who had no idea about skating or how to make a park flow.
This is BASE in Bali. I'm about to do something similar in my city in Thailand, but with an extra area only for street skating, maybe a "plaza" style street course: http://www.concretedisciples.com/ska...ay.php?id=2921Comment
