I signed up for that site and I instantly got spammed with dozens of "friends" request, mostly from people I don't know or care about. Whatever. Another fucking social networking site to clog up in inbox.

No. Everybody can request a connection, but it's up to you to approve them or not (or remove them whenever you want).
But only business peope are on the site (invite only), so it's not open to surfers.
And only members can invite others to come onboard.

Industry boards, social networks, and alike can, and should, be used for business. Everything is a business opportunity waiting to be discovered. That should be your mindset if you are truly business entrepreneur and in this online game for the long haul.

Whether brokering deals, or networking, and laying ground work for advantageous partnerships in the future. Maybe learning unfamiliar segment(s) of the industry. Gaining some knowledge of other aspects you did not know, whether content side, clips store, traffic, lighting, delivery methods, better web hosting, etc..

It really slowed down. The first day I couldn't move for people connecting with me but now I get one every now and then. I figure you can't network if you don't 'connect'.
