Yes, people have been getting the flu for ages, but the World Health Organization doesn't raise the the alert level to 5 every day.

If the headline was "Someone in Mexico caught the flu!" and the media reported it, your statement would be valid.

I think it's pretty clear now that this will sweep over the world. Might not kill more than the usual flu, but we already had a normal flu season so this could double the deaths.

Not to mention, this is the first strain. It can mutate very easily as all flu viruses do into a much more dangerous version since it contains human, bird, and swine variants.

The concern is not just hype, this could become a serious problem although it is not currently that bad.

This is just nuts...the gov and the media are having a field day with this. If we called it the something other than the "swine flu" maybe people would calm down. I suggest "the dog cold"...everyone loves dogs and cold sounds better than flu

Jesus... My whole family had the flu about 3 weeks ago. Worst one I have ever had... seriously, both my wife and I ran temps over 100 for over 9 days. Yes, 9 fucking days. I have never had a sickness that knocked the shit out of me like this last one... and now we have something new... yay...

I believe that raising to level five gives government more control over it's citizens
when it's necessary to quarantine them.

So why would the World Health Organization raise the alert to level 5? Its not normal for them to do so over just any old flu is it?

Currently there is no immunization shot for the H1N1 virus but I guess you could go get a tetanus shot just in case you step on a rusty nail when the looting begins
