    Adult vs. Mainstream

    What do you think is more lucrative?

    What about in the near future?

    Whats best to invest time and education in? It seems both are hand in hand in learning experiences.

          I've had a small mainstream site for 2 years and mainstream is really really really boring. I've been to a lot of mainstream webmaster meetings and theyre all so fucking boring, and many of the people are stupid. Dont even know what ftp means.

          That said my next project is mainstream as its a lot easier to sell something when you can use PayPal and YouTube, plus the adult industry is eroding out from under us. I started a microniche site and thought it would have no competition but it turns out I have a TON of competition and everyones already on the tubes, so when I want to charge $5/month to watch videos on my site theyre saying fuck you to me and cancelling out of my site and going to the tubes. its been hard to make a profit.
          Mainstream it is.

                                  Right now you would be crazy to work on anything adult IMO, it is simply a waste of time.

                                  With the time you would spend on making $1 000 in adult, you'll make 5 times more doing mainstream.

                                      I think what he means is the fact huge mainstream sites which are losing a ton of money are still sold for a fortune, a similar site but adult nobody would touch. And that is true, but obviously only a handful of people are going to build sites that big, when it comes to making money in general in adult/mainstream it is a lot easier in adult.

                                              Obvious it's mainstream. There are tons more to see money vise there in if you have the know how and
                                              can spot a great market to serve.

                                              For example two years since EbaumsWorld's founder Eric Bauman sold his site for $15 million CASH + a potential 52 million in bonus stocks.

                                              What Tgp could get this kind of deal? even if they are generating
                                              the kind of
                                              money Ebaums did they will not see a 52 million potential bonus.

                                              There's too many sharks in Mainstream contra Adult.

                                              That said you can make money in both markets. But If you have solid
                                              ideas and like to invent, I rather do it in Mainstream.

                                                      The problem is many in the online industry never learned to sell. Their technique has always been give away a lot free, and hopefully they buy. Which is little more than the throw enough shit at a wall, and some will stick. That technique is over. Some just can't let go.

                                                      If you have some conversion skill and salesmanship. You'll be fine no matter what you do.

                                                                                  There's no simple formula. As someone who does mainstream primarily, I can say to you that there's more niches in mainstream. There's more room to play. It's also easier to aggregate small pools of traffic/cash into decent revenue.
