    FACT: 0,999...(infinite 9s) = 1

    And I can prove it to you if you don't see the logic to begin with

    There are many proofs but I will start out with this one:

    X = 0,999...(infinite 9s)

    We multiply with 10 on each side:
    (and yes you can do that, because it's not the number that is infinite it is the trails of 9s)

    10X = 9,999... (infinite 9s)

    We etract 1 X on each side:

    10X - X = 9.999... - 0,999...

    9X = 9

    We devide on both sides with 9

    9X/9 = 9/9

    X = 1

    There you have it.

    So what does GFY think does 0,999... = 1?

    My brother can prove mathematically that 1+1 does not equal 2. Don't know how but its crazy stuff. I believe you, loads of strange things in maths.

          Hehe yes that one is bending the normal use of mathematics though...

          If you apply that rule in math (say accounting and such) your numbers will be wrong.
          The funny thing about this is that 0,999... is the same as 1.

          0.999... + 0.999... = 2 btw

                        Normaly I'd say that 9,999...9-0,999...9 = 9.000...9 and NOT 9,000...0

                        BUT it plays somehow with the fact that an infinite set has the same number of elements as i.e. 2,3,4, X-times that infinite set.

                              Lets day you have a pie.

                              please try and split 100 up in 3 equally large pieces.

                              The good old way even you must have learned back in elementary school

                              100 / 3
                              Goes 3 times, we now have 10 left.
                              10 / 3
                              Goes 3 times, we now have 1 left
                              1 / 3
                              Goes 3 times we now have 0.1 left
                              0.1 / 3
                              Goes 3 times, we now have 0.01 left
                              and so on into infinity.

                              So the decimal representatoin for 1/3 is 0.333....(infinite 3s)

                              Let's see what we get when we multiply that with 3.
                              0.999... (infinite 9s) er 1.
                              Some may think that the representation suck but it is never the less the system we use everyday.
                              In this system 0.999... (infinite) represents 1 as well as 1 does

                              1 = 3/3
                              Devide by 3
                              0.333...(infinite) = 1/3
                              Multiply by 3
                              0.999...(infinite) = 3/3

                              1 and 0.999...(infinite) is the same

                              It's not something I am making up, just pointing out that almost no one seems to understand the system we use everyday.

                              0.999... IS NOT CLOSE TO 1, it IS 1.

                                It is a funny fact because people can't accept it

                                But it is never the less a fact and not some math mumbo jumbo.

                                        there is a mathmatic sign for this.. i believe it looks like a 8 on its side split from one end to the othe.. it means roughly equal.. been years sence math class but anyone know what i mean..

                                        so the answer is even more correct then your correct answer.
