Figure if someone goes out of their way to save my life and I am not taking it on purpose. They can say whatever the fuck they want to me after the fact. Call me names, preach to me, hell try to convert me to worshiping their pet rock. I would be fairly certain I would not mind and I would be courteous about it. Technically you owe them your life in my mind, that sort of should be a pretty big IOU at least.
