usually situations like that are due to mental illness. I have a friend who used to run a cleaning business and would contract with the state of Missouri to clean places for people who had mental problems but were being worked back into mainstream society...they would often hoard garbage thinking they would accidentally throw away something important. Some of the places she described to me probably rivaled those pics

If you've lived in a frat house during summer break when there are no pledges (read: unpaid labor) to clean up after the brothers, you know this is not just possible but highly probable.
