    Hanging out with the Dandy Warhols next weekend

    A neighbor friend of mine knows the band opening up for them, and we're all gonna go hang after the show. I didn't even know who Dandy Warhols were, just YouTube'd them.. pretty cool, trippy videos.

          They make some great music. I got into them way back when after finding one of their promo CDs gathering dust in the radio station I worked at. Was both thrilled and horrified to hear two of their songs on car commercials years later.

                  I'm a fan, but their live show is seriously dull. Years ago when I saw them in Montreal, they didn't let the local opening act play so they could do the whole show themselves and literally, played an extended 15-20 minute version of every single song for 4 hours!

                  By the end, the audience was passed out, lying down on the ground.

                      Reminds me of a Blues Traveller concert I saw years ago, jam fest lasted for hours, people even started leaving.

                      Looking forward to this concert though, should be fun

                                          Lol... guess you are not a big jam band fan... I love those extended jams. If the audience isn't lying on the floor by the end then the band failed. Not enough improvisation in music these days, imo.

                                              The problem was most of the "extension" was without any singing, just instrumental. I'm not much of an instrumental kind of guy (probably why I also hate electronic and dance music) - I like me some lyrics in my songs - which when they actually do sing, I think the Warhols have some great ones

                                                          I saw them opening for the Stones in 2007. I didn't like the show or the music. Granted they were working with a pretty bad PA system

Hope those BJM guys have steppped back just enough on the dope to be able play. I am not about to tell them to leave the drugs out of Sex, Drugs, and Rock and Roll, but got to at least maintain enough straightness to play the gigs.

                                                                          LOL, luckily the member of BJM we have in our band is totally clean. He was in the band for 4 years so he has some crazy stories.

                                                                                              I interviewed them years ago when they were first starting out in Portland. They are a cool band with a good sound. The trick to seeing them live used to be catching them on the right amount of drugs (I don't know if they still get high or not). You see them with not enough drugs and they were bad. You see them with too much and they were boring. Just the right amount though and they do a good live show.
