Sorry, but these are very strange examples of "freedom". You said: "I can go buy an assault rifle". Why don't you add: "I can go into the nearest school and shoot 100 kids there. Go try that in your country"??? At least you won't denied this is a "normal" story for the USA but absolutely insane think for Russia and Turkey? Yes, I also can buy I traumatic gun to protect myself (it's enough against the riffraff, but not enough to start a bloody bath somewhere). I can also legally buy any smooth-bore weapon including automatic riffles based on AK (e.g. saiga). So what???

Now about beer. Ok, you can buy it, but I can even drink it sitting on a bench in the park. Does it makes me more free than you? I go out of my home in Moscow, get a taxi and go to casino or into brothel - both are absolutely legal. Using your words, I can say: go try that in your country. I can continue with a lot of things I can do here but you can't there. However I don't see any reason to do so, because:
1) these are not real indicators of freedom;
2) my country never declared itself "a lend of freedom". Furthermore, day-by-day it's getting more free and more democratic (slowly but I can feel the movement), as about the USA, so you may not be agree with me - read the posts of other GFY-ers: lots of people are complaining that the USA is becoming a police state. You didn't get it. I meant that I don't get all the info from media (like "yours" or "ours"). I'm used to get it from the real people directly (thanks a lot to the internet) and GFY is one of those sources I consider reliable where I can hear that Americans say about their country. This is all I wanted to say in my previous post.

This is not so extreme as you think. Try being the only Russian in a room full of English guys and endless vodka/beer/whisky :winkwink: I was working as a programmer in some mixed international (Russian/English/Italian/German) group for a rather long time (a 45 days watch 12 hours a day w/o weekends). i never compare Tr and US each other economically, in fact i didn't mean to insult Americans though, what i meant was, "Land of freedom" which US has been called in it's history turning to shitty country day by day and almost no one shows any reaction against this.

as i said above, no need to been to US for having clue about it, in real life and thru internet i have Russian and American friends and 2 Americans closely i m doing business together with.

additionally i don't understand why some of You American's example is always about rifles when it comes to freedom,

in Norway You can't even buy a toy gun, but i never heard of Norwegians complaining about it, because they can have fun, they can do what ever they want and no one tries to mess their freedom though.

Actually yes, it was funny. To be honest, there was nothing what surprised me in the USA with the exception of quite few small things. I saw exactly what I expected to see there.

Course you are absolutely right. The USA is a multi-national and it is also simple a rather big country with different climatic zones etc. So yes, different states look totally different (including people, food, nature etc).
