ALL cops? No, I wouldn't go that far. Many, not all. I've known several guys who were or still are great people as well as great cops.
It's the ones who are on the cop power trip, the ones who think wearing the badge automatically makes them "tough", etc. Coupled with a basic shitty attitude and a hatred of people in general and having a job that indulges the control freak in them and you have your basic asshole cop. Sure, call them for help if you absolutely have no other option, otherwise cops are best avoided as much as possible, because you never know if you're going to get a few of the nice guys or the pricks with ears. The ones who go downtown to clear out a drunken party event are in truth following orders. But that doesn't mean they have to treat people like shit though, which some cops do like it's a perk of the job. |

As far as the Red Mile is concerned . . . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Mile
2004 marked the first time the Flames qualified for the NHL's Stanley Cup playoffs since 1996. The Red Mile's beginnings were relatively humble, and consisted of people driving down the Red Mile honking and waving flags, as people walked the streets cheering and clapping hands. Several thousand fans went to bars along 17th Avenue S.W. to watch the Flames on the road against the Vancouver Canucks in the first round, and also to watch the team play at the nearby Pengrowth Saddledome for home games. When the Flames eliminated the Canucks in the seventh and deciding game by Martin Gelinas' overtime goal, fans flooded the streets in a relatively spontaneous party celebrating the Flames first playoff series victory since the 1989 Stanley Cup final against the Montreal Canadiens. The fact that this was spontaneous is a phenomenon in itself; there had been no advertising or other form of publicizing of 17th Avenue as an after-game party strip prior to the playoff run. As the Flames progressed through the subsequent playoff series against the Detroit Red Wings, San Jose Sharks and Tampa Bay Lightning, the popularity of the Red Mile continued to grow, and along with it the party atmosphere. By the time of the seventh game of the Stanley Cup final against Tampa, the city was expecting over 100,000 people would flood the area if the Flames were to win the Cup. This, however, was not to be as the Lightning defeated the Flames in Game 7, 2-1. Of course, you may be too young to remember the last time the Flames did anything worth celebrating [or memorable]. Sounds like the cops had the right idea. Show of force is a great tactic. |

I have to disagree in general. I was raised to hate cops and authority in general. That is my default stance on most issues. Having said that my best friend is an officer in the federal police which gives me some perspective on the the day to day of the job. While it is true that he spends a lot of time busting the heads of loud mouthed punks like MetaMan, he spends the majority of his time helping people (usually old and helpless) who have been victimized somehow....... usually by some loudmouth punks like MetaMan. There is a legitimate place for police officers in a civilized society. Of course like most branches of government there is a tendency to abuse that power.

I guess I should've known better than to make a post then go out for the evening. All Lambo drivers have to do is have the centerfold riding with them flash their tits for the officer to get out of simple speeding tickets. Would you care to place a small wager over whether I drive a Lambo? |
I hafta' agree with CDSmith on this one. Only a percentage (not the majority) of cops are bad. And the percentage varies from place to place. Often the tone is set by the higher-ups.
Generalizing and stereotyping all cops doesn't paint a realistic image. I work with cops on a daily basis and must say the majority (in our area) are good people. There's a few I wouldn't cross the street to piss on their head if their hair was on fire...but those are the small minority. One must remember the cops deal with the bottom dregs of society everyday - its difficult to maintain a proper perspective on society overall. And while they're paid a decent wage to do what they do - its generally a thankless job. |
Some cops are not 100% worthless... But you had best believe that most of them just love to fuck with people and cause trouble... Might I share a few examples:
1. I have have more than a few girl friends get pulled over and harassed by a cop that were bored.... I guess the flashing lights beats some cheesy ice breaker line :( 2. I have lived in 3rd floor of a 3 family house where there was a shootout going on with the person on the 2nd floor and the moron on the street that was pissed at him. 2 slugs in the AC unit and people are scared to death... a 911 call and A (as in one single car) fucking cop shows up a literal hour later :( 3. Had my car stolen in my drive way last year... cop showed up an was like... well be thankful you did not get stabbed and/or shot. They recovered my car 4 days later and had no issue charging me $400ish to get it out of the impound yard though... AFTER IT WAS STOLEN AND STRIPPED OUT... awesome system :( 3a. Neighbor had his car stolen and they recovered it... he asked if they were going to finger printer it to attempt to find out who stole it. They explain to him they don't waste their time with that stuff, but he was welcome to pay to have it dusted himself my contractors... He did and delivered the results.... they could care less nothing has been done :( 4. I have read a few cops only forums and even they will admit it. They hear shots fired calls on the radio and they wait for it to end so they can arrest the one that is not dead or clean up the bodies... they have no interest in catching a bullet for you or I :( Now this post thus far has been a rant for sure, but it is based on facts and life experiences rather than retarded blind hatred like some other posters. I mean the facts are simple the rot is WAAAAY deeper than just than your friendly neighborhood law officers and the system is rotten to the core. To the genius that said you should vote and elect better officials and be pissed at your neighbors for putting these morons in power to make these lame laws... ummm... yea... ok get on that and tell me how it works out :) Unless you have tons of cash your not going to get any traction since people are stupid as a whole and the sheeple vote against their interests all the time out of pure ignorance... Lobbiest and cash make laws not voters :( I wanna belive that everyone is a precious little snow flake and all that crap... Reality is sadly we are not and one person can't do much unless they are REALLY good at herding sheeple... Moral of my extra long rant that I'm sure contains some engrish and/or other errors is this... Don't hate anything because someone tells you to... Hate something because it has fucked over you and/or those close to you... In closing cops will do little for you when you need them, but you best believe if I had a gun and shot the fucker that stole my car in my drive way I would be in prison for assault with a deadly weapon or murder. While they will almost never do anything to help you they will sure as shit lock you up for taking care of your own business... gotta love it :) I'm here preaching the truth of this BS world mondays, thursdays and sundays heh :) -Brann |

I got soo many bad cop stories.. fuck.. I definately don't trust the police..
Here's one example of calling for help.. My friend's brother locked himself in a hotel room and was threatening to kill himself.. So we go to the hotel.. Hotel staff won't let us in they say we gotta call the cops.. So we figure.. Ok great the cops are trained for this type of situation.. Cops open up the door and charge him.. What do they say to him? "We'll give you a reason to kill yourself" and proceeded to beat the shit out of him.. He was fine until we called the cops.. after the cops dealt with him he had to go to the hospital.. broken nose, cracked ribs, broken jaw, something done to his collar bone, bruises all over his body and a severe concussion.. Thanks for the help officers. |
just stopping by and saying "hi"!

Cops are great in countries like this where the law abiding population has been disarmed while the crims seem not to have a problem getting their hands on a piece. If you aren't breaking the law its amazing how you never seem to have an issue with Cops .. funny that ;)

I love all the cop haters, because they are the first to call 911 when their car was stolen or their house was burglarized and wail like sissies.

The police used to be true members of the community. But over the past two decades, the police all around the country have seemingly adopted a policy of "us against them" .
It seemed to have started with the whole concept of the war on drugs. Even small towns equip their police force like a para-military group. With armored cars, a full time swat team, etc. I live in a town with virtually zero crime and pretty pricey homes, and our police force has TWO armored car style personnel carriers. Complete with gun ports on the side and a battering ram on the front. What the FUCK do they need that for??? Obviously they feel terribly threatened in the same community they are sworn to protect. And it's not just a few bad apples. Whenever a cop is accused of wrongdoing, all the other cops support him. If they were all good, they would want the bad cops thrown out. But they always support bad cops, no matter what they do. In Chicago last year, that cop beat up a woman in a bar for nearly 3 minutes straight and it was all caught on video and was shown around the world. There was no question what happened, the cop is a violent criminal. Yet Chicago cops all supported the guy, even gave him an escort to court and kept the media from his home so he could have his privacy. If cops are so good, why didn't they just throw that guy to the dogs? There are countless stories like that. I think we need to pay police more money and require more training so we can attract a better group of people to that occupation. I think becoming a cop requires one of the lowest levels of training for almost any job, doesn't it? |
