1) he's schizophrenic. he seems to be so bad that he needs constant care and medication and therapy.

so.. what is the better thing to do? let him delude himself and continue to let him use his "music" as a coping mechanism knowing that the ultimate cost is that it won't happen and he will eventually implode in on himself emotionally and probably hurt himself or others....

or do you continue to try to help him get a grip on reality, get a job etc... knowing that he is really incapable of those things as well?

somewhere in Tacoma, there are psychiatric specialists familiar with his case, praying everyday that he doesn't find a rifle and go to the mall.
