Not sure where Ozark has been but in Minneapolis, they are not organized. they do fight over corners. One corner had the guy hire security as he was making so much(supposedly). One corner with three bums who work it is worth 60k a year(supposedly). So yeah I guess they do ok but it is booze and drugs every night then back to the corner. They might not be truly homeless in that they sleep indoors but pretty rough deal all around.

They fight in cities like Montreal where it is organized. Fights happen for many reasons.

You didn't say some of the beggars in some fairly small cities might be organized.

Listing three Canadian cities and San Fransico, none of which would even be in the top 100 for largest cities is hardly representative of "major cities" as a whole. Listen son, you can go on and on about your wild fantasy of organized crime panhandlers, but in the real world I spent over 10 years of my life in these neighborhoods dealing with these people on a daily basis. You can't fucking herd cats, and these people went out on their own every day to beg for their own money, of which they would use to buy alcohol and drugs. When they found a good spot that they could make money at you would find them there day after day, with the same bullshit story about how their car just ran out of gas up the street and they need money to buy gas and get home.

There was no organization, and in fact they would often rob each other, so enough already...

Down here we have the mafia running this bum operation. They deploy bums, cripples, women and children (just like in Slumdog Millionaire) at high traffic places and make CRAZY $$$ from it. Mafia keeps all the cash and the bums barely get enough money to buy food.

People who don't believe that this is a multi-million organized crime gig need to snap the fuck out of the fantasy world they're living it.

The mafia manages all the bum/cripple beggars and then kicks the cash back to government officials so they turn a blind eye to it.

Most of us have already agreed that yes there probably are groups organized. My old weed dealer used to have a little circle of crackheads he sold crack to. He was always trying to sell me new Xbox's or whatever. I could bring him a flyer from the paper with what I wanted circled, and he'd send his crackheads out if I wanted. Half of retail price was the charge. I'm sure he got it for half that or less. It is entirely possible that there are loyal homeless people who have agreed to give all their bum funds to one person. But it is far from the norm.

It's not like a monopoloy on the bumming industry by a long shot. I've seen plenty of bum fights break out. Usually it's because they are drugged up, drunk, and or just plain crazy. Homeless wil fight amongst eachother frequently. It's every man for himself, with temporary allegiances formed here and there. To call it organized is stretching. The most of the bums who group together do it for temporary protection, or just company, not to work for some pimpdaddy drug dealer as bum employees. Worst case scenario it's a "You buy your smack from me and only me, or I'll fucking shoot you" kind of deal, to maintain clientele and combat other dealers. Not a, "Would you like to join my bum gang? We run these streets"...

Apparantly you have never went to a private school. You spend a ton of time doing community service. Most of mine was spent at the food banks and soup kitchens. I have talked to a lot of homeless people over the years, but I have never been in their situation. I do not think you can really understand what they go through unless you have experienced that lifestyle. I still do volunteer work. A lot of it is in Phoenix, which is not a small town. :winkwink:

Actually it is true that there is some organization to the beggars in high dencity aeras. They have to pay for their spots and stuff.

It's the same as with hookers, or corner pushers. You dont see them flying solo.
