Buying a new laptop, any recommendations?

To make my long story short; I got my laptop taken away, yes, like a preschooler gets her toys get taken away because she beat up another child. Anyways, I'm looking into buying a new laptop but not sure where to start. I really need some advice before some useless sales guy tries to sale me on a computer I don't need. I'm open to PC or MACs

    Main use:
    -streaming video
    -internet browsing
    -office documents
    -social networking
    -picture editing
    -working remotely:

From what I've read in Consumer Reports, the top three laptop brands are Apple, IBM (Lenovo) and Toshiba. They ranked them by quality, # of problems, and customer service/support.

I've been really happy with my Toshiba. I encouraged everyone around me to buy Toshiba laptops and so far no complaints.

I've had two toshiba's now and they rock - zero issues with either. I love the new one I have Qosmio G50 (I am sure they have a new one by now) but it has a huge 18.5" screen, due core processor, 4 gig RAM and 250 Gig hardrive for like $1200.

for streaming video stay away form Macs, this is one of my only complaints about them. You cant hook a camera up to them via USB or Firewire and stream video. I have to hang on to my Compaqs to do this.

                      Dell Outlet

Get a sweet laptop. Get a 1 year warranty and sleep at night knowing it will do everything you need without fail. Oh, and save about $500 - $700 on it...

Stay away from Dell - they have gone to serious shit. My wife has gotten a new one for each of the last 3 years and this year is by far the worse. She has sworn off them forever!
