The length of time it takes you to make a song is a moot point.. if no one likes it.

Being gay is not a matter of someone else's opinion. In other words, no matter how gay I think someone else, it doesn't change their actual sexuality. Performance art, on the other hand, pretty much RELIES on the opinion's of others. If the goal is to entertain, and nobody is entertained, than you've pretty much failed.
