question for aussies regarding .com.au and porn sites - GoFuckYourself.com

i am getting conflicting reports from various sources

one is telling me it's ok to host porn sites on .com.au domains as long as u do it offshore (usa or uk web host for example)

others are telling me u cannot host porn sites on .com.au domains period

which one is it?

i know there are some popular .com.au sites such as youporn.com.au and others....

so, wtf is it?

You can host them on .com.au offshore, but most aussie ISPs will try to block your domain.

the fact that porn .com.au's have existed for a while suggests to me that ironically you can buy them just not host them lol

Are people doing it? yes.

Is it illegal? yes.

Should you do it? I would say not worth the trouble right now... especially considering you need registered business in AU to even get the domains if available.

There are and have been quite a few adult .com.au domains in the past, but mostly hosted offshore.

The laws exist that make it illegal, just like it's illegal to buy and sell x rated porn in Australia, (aside from our territories... kinda like buying and selling fireworks in the US, usually in odd places on the freeway between major cities).

But here's the thing, people sell x rated porn all over the place in every capital city and people host x rated porn even on Australian servers (in the form of dating and submission sites mostly), even though it's illegal...

The argument has always been "who's going to police it"... I did hear that people like club x get hit by enforcement agencies all the time, but nothing ever comes of it.

Yeah... on the ball alright, don't host any porn on aussie servers. You can't film content here either if it's X rated, so basically any penetration. I don't understand this catch, but the only legal place you can film porn, smoke weed, prostitution is completely legal and half the bs laws don't apply is in our country's capital, Canberra, the ACT... Australia, WTF! This country's look on porn is going down the christian drain!

To answer question, basically what every else said, i personally wouldn't bother with a .com.au porn domain, if this BS filter gets put in place, your site sure as hell wont be able to be viewed by ANY australian without using a proxy...
