booting up photoshop? j/k.

seems strange, as i (and anyone else i know) can produce stats in minutes.
I've spent my life producing stats. Not sure where or how you produce yours but I dont have time playing your games. Run along now....

PLEASE tell me!

If the site is quality isn't it best that more people are aware of it?

having to make your money on exits and upsells because you're paying $40 per trial

vs

exploiting IT dropouts willing to code for food @ $10 an hour :)

both valid (and oversimplified for the point) approaches and not worthy of the derision pete showed the latter.

I would assume profit sharing and benefits are a good way of keeping employees? Besides, just because someone has the knowledge to successfully work for your company doesn't mean they can go and do it on their own. Do they have servers, exclusive content, processing, ready made traffic, affiliates, etc?

like roger says, people accel at different things. i've found in house employees to work the best. i can leverage my content and expertise in their favor, and all traffic produced is mine. period.

i am very successful working this angle. it's given me an extremely high profit margin. if you wish to pursue the affiliate angle, that's great too.

if you're successful, who's to argue?

quiet thanks for your input. I suppose I was wondering if one way was better than the other. Maybe it's one of those things where they can be equally successful depending on how they're used.

Your crew may be better at doing things inhouse, others may be better using affiliates.

Kinda sucks if you don't know what your strengths and weaknesses are to being with.

so where are they now? we have the very best graphics people here on gfy, to triple check any stats we produce. remember again, i don't have an affiliate program, so my members are much more valuable than most :)

run along? i don't think so. although i'm going out for some pool in about 30 min.

I recomend you do it all.

I buy traffic from many sources that profit more than our programs.
programs have a set profit built into them and requires volume and experience.

Traffic deals have to be monitored but can profit more you just have to keep a close eye on them so you don't get fucked.

building your own traffic requires salaries or alot of man hours but in the long run can profit alot

you can profit from everything if you know what you are doing.

It all comes down to great admin tools and numbers

Exactly what I'm getting. It's happend to me too! Again, I ask, why would it be worse to use affiliates?

More exposure of a good site will generate more sales no matter how you cut it. More people see something that's actually worth subscribing to, more will subscribe to it.

Where the fuck is my logic going wrong? Somebody PLEASE clarify this for me. It's important!

Several years ago my (former) business ran an affiliate program for a period of time. Many, headaches involved. My manager at the time asked if we could drop it. I agreed. Took a drop in traffic and sales for a time, but my manager pulled us out of that stage and the business began to have growth again. Different strokes for different folks. I agree that if you don't mind the headaches involved and get the program to operating relatively smoothly the potential for growth is quicker than not having an affiliate program.

My conclusion: quiet and his program are an exception to the general rule. There are sites like his that run inhouse and they make a lot of cake.

However, I think that the majority of programs want to go the affiliate route (not only want to but have to in order to generater the volumes of traffic and sales).

Pete 11-22-2002 09:22 PM

I hate like hell to pull out the stats, but........

quiet 11-22-2002 09:23 PM

anyway, this thread is (obviously) lame. you said you thought anyone who didn't run an affiliate program was lazy. i assure you that not all of them are lol.

we can leave it at that. or we can start posting heavily scrutinized stats.

i think i'll win :glugglug

UnseenWorld 11-22-2002 10:02 PM

It's cost-per-signup. In a typical affiliate program, you give up 50% of the initial sale and 50% of each rebill thereafter. Fuck! That's a lot of money you're using to buy sign-ups (which is where the cost-per-signup comes in). I should think that the appeal of doing it yourself is obvious...IF you're good at it.

spool 11-22-2002 10:05 PM

quiet -- is that true? you get over 3,000,000 visitors per day?

[The Leader] 11-23-2002 12:31 AM

quiet, don't a remember you saying you had 13,000 recurring or something? These guys say you're getting 3 million hits/day, if that's true how could you only have 13k members. Is that just the members for one site or something, and those 3 mill are for a couple sites? Or is that 3 mill to tgp galleries, not your pay sites?

Did you try adding the figures up? Certainly looks like 3 mil over 2 domains to me - or at least close enough not to worry about the odd few k.

p1mpdogg 11-23-2002 02:45 AM

his stats are showing around 800 million hits.

thats not 3 million hits per day :)

am i missing something?

if he had around 3 mil per day, that would be around 1-1.5 billion per year.. his stats are not showing that.. :)
