Can't think of a more motivating reason to kick the habit than your kids!

mmcfadden 03-30-2009 03:41 PM

Well I didn't want to post this but broke down around 3:30. I cleaned my entire house... drank coffee all day and felt a bit ill.

I've had two since... better then almost a pack by this time but didn't do it. Enrolled my daughter in her first Karate class today and think I'm going to take some as well.

Smoking makes me feel shitty, nicotine residue on my toungue, costly and I just have to get rid of them.

A good friend of mine died past Saturday of lung cancer.. 2 weeks ago he was diagnosed and past away Saturday night.. Another motivation to stop.

I quit smoking 3 weeks ago and i have real short moments were i want to smoke a siggie, but they pass in a few seconds.. they come in real short waves.. but after a week or so they come less and less..

Don't worry, if you can't quit smoking, eventually smoking will quit for you.

Mistah Charlie 03-30-2009 08:25 PM

One word: chantix. Get someone to write you an Rx.

Sarah_Jayne 03-31-2009 04:05 AM

Well done and do it for her as much as for you. I have life long chest issues that weren't helped by being around a smoking parent for so many years.

brassmonkey 03-31-2009 04:10 AM

put up a damn fight mmcfadden dont let it beat you

DiF0r 03-31-2009 04:22 AM

kesha1 03-31-2009 04:24 AM

Tomorrow they rise the price to $7 in cali, so, I bought 3 cartons today ;)

USUALENT 03-31-2009 06:53 AM

hopefully you can stay away from the cigs

LiveDose 03-31-2009 06:56 AM

Good luck with quitting. I did cold turkey about 8 years ago. Best decision ever.

MTCCash Tim 03-31-2009 07:08 AM

agreed..you will not believe how much better you will feel

tranza 03-31-2009 07:13 AM

You can, you can do this!

thundergasm 03-31-2009 07:45 AM

Easily one of the hardest things a person will do, but being the one who made the decision as opposed to someone else nagging you will make the transition easier. Good luck to you!

RobertD 03-31-2009 07:49 AM

Stick to it. It's totally worth it :2 cents:

romeo22 03-31-2009 08:04 AM

If you break down and smoke a cig or two, just think about it for a minute and move on. Don't beat yourself up or tell yourself it's impossible.

Smoking is very hard to quit because there are virtually no immediate consequences for starting back up again. The nicotine isn't that powerful of a drug, it's just there is really no downside for starting back up and your brain knows it. If you are trying to quit crack or something, usually after a few attempts you think of all the horrible failures, the money you stole, the family you lost, the friends you lost, the arrests, and you quit. Smoking has none of that. Just get over the mental part of it and the drugs hold only lasts about a week.

Quitting smoking is 99% mental, the nicotine is very weak in relation to other drugs.

That's like the worst advice you could ever give someone trying to quit smoking.

Every time you have a cigarette, withdrawal starts all over again.

The only way to break free is to break free, never take another puff.

If you can make it for 3 days, you can make it for the rest of your life, but if you ever take another puff, then it's like you never quit, and the withdrawal pains will start all over again.

It's not a "habit" that you can wean yourself off of, it's a drug addiction.

You wouldn't tell a crack addict that it's ok if he smokes one or two rocks in rehab. You wouldn't tell a heroin junky that it's ok to shoot up once or twice.
Same principle applies to cigarettes. Nicotine is more addictive than heroin BTW....you've gotten some very bad information vis a vis the power of nicotine and you should really stop giving advice to people trying to quit smoking. :2 cents:

You can totally do it! I did it. I smoked a couple of packs a day for something like 30 years! Even after my heart attack I smoked until I was just sick to death (damn near) and FINALLY was able to cut them out forever. :)
I dont even have a daughter.. or anyone who cares really for that matter.. so you are so far ahead of the game you dont even know it.

Allxfunclub 03-31-2009 12:08 PM

good for you... good luck!

Kiwigirl 03-31-2009 12:58 PM

best of luck with that....I hope that you succeed for the benefit of setting a good example for your daughter. Me on the other hand....I just purchased 2 cartons cos the price goes up on April 1st. LOL I ain't no quitter. hehehe

For effect you should post the amount of time between the pictures.

Good call -- http://www.whyquit.com/whyquit/BryanLeeCurtis.html

I think it's messed up that people smoked at his funeral...

However, my aunt has emphysema and her partner smoked up until the day she (the partner) died of lung cancer (my aunt was sick the entire time)...My aunt is still hangin' in there.

My grandfather, who lived until 82, said he'd rather die than quit smoking.

DonX 03-31-2009 01:50 PM

I stopped about 13 years ago. It was harder then stopping drugs and drinking :1orglaugh
Good luck bro :thumbsup:thumbsup
