They were shot in a now-demolished steel factory in downtown Hamilton, Ontario - Stelwire (a division of Stelco).

Its now a parking lot for the neighbouring hospital.

We shoot at a lot of these locations, just do some research and scope it out in advance.
They make fanatstic sites.

Precisely.

Scout the site ahead of time (preferrably with a buddy or two) and get familiar with the layout of the place - during daylight if possible. Always be wary of crackheads and other potential trouble.

Detroit's become a mecca for abandonments - although there's a few neighbourhoods I wouldn't attempt after dark. Closest I came a few summers ago was an abandoned hospital in Windsor - just over the river. Got nabbed by the new owner of the property (a developer) - it got ugly real fast.
