YERBA MATE - instead of Red Bull, coffee etc. Any drinkers here? [no PICS] :)

I used to drink a lot of coffee, Red Bulls etc a while ago but for the past few months I've been drinking this South American tea all day it's all I need to get me "working"

Anyone else here drink this?

the guayaki iced yerba mate tea is pretty good too, potent stuff


I mix it up with different teas all the time, lately been into some puerh which could be likened to being the "espresso" of teas... strong and good connoisseur tea

puerh is cool, it is like you are dealing with some kind of exotic narcotic or something, pressed and stamped aged high quality rare teas made in the techniques created for ancient caravan travel on the silk roads

actually, it's "ma-TAY" ;)

i dont have a bombilla so i dont drink it often. it takes about 20min for the leaves to fall to the bottom of the cup and thats a long time to wait for mate.

but if i need to shit i'll swish up a teaspoon or two of it. works like a charm.

I just use a special kind of appliance, kind of a jar shaped thing. I have no idea what to call it. Anyway it's used for coffee, tea etc. and you can filter out everything by pressing down on it.

It's simpler than using a bombilla and all the rest

I've used both a press and a bombilla to drink mate, but with the press it will never be as strong or concentrated... It is way more convenient though.

I have to add a light of lime juice to make the mate drinkable.

I like the taste as it is, it has a strong herbal taste that is pleasant and yet potent.

don't know what all the fuss is about, I just throw it in the hot water and drink it 5 minutes later and it's fine

I noticed that they are selling a bombilla starter kit that comes with 5oz of maté for a pretty low price at the organic grocery, but I haven't picked one up because it's been working fine for me making it just like regular tea.
