That's not true... Gladiator and Walk the Line pretty much secured him as a star with some academy award nominations.
But yes, I'm convinced it's a stunt as well just cause his b-i-l is following him around with a camera all the time, ever since the whole thing started.

If I remember right he's shooting a documentary with Casey Affleck on his rise to rap stardom. This is a massive marketing hoax for their little mockumentary or jokeumentary or whatever the fuck you want to call it.

It's not likely he was able to hear what someone in the audience would be saying.

It was also in Miami and look at how hyped everything/everyone was.. The dude making noises and hyping the crowd while he's supposedly fighting in the audience?

Why is he even there performing? etc..

Not the same as being a celebrity imo... I probably wouldn't notice him if he walked by me on the street. Before this he stayed out of the media and wasn't a big "face" outside of his movies.
