OK, so Canada doesn't have much of a military, big deal. I believe it's the gesture that counts here. They have specialists that can contribute; snipers were mentioned. They have no need for a large army. At least they are in it with us.

Funny how most Americans don't seem to be able to wrap their heads around the fact that if you don't spend your time creating enemies, you don't need massive military spending to protect yourself. This is especially true when the continent you are on is isolated from the rest of the globe by 2 sizable oceans.

Sure you can throw your weight around a bit, and maybe scare a few countries into submission to protect your oil interests. But its a vicious cycle. The more you do that, the angrier the rest of the world gets, and sooner or later a suitcase nuke.. or something of similar scale, is going to be detonated in an American city.

America will not be able to respond in kind because the bomb will probably not be tracable to any particular country as the culprit. What are you going to do, nuke the entire Middle East? You are a moron if you think that is feasible.

Fact is that the United States is now being more or less run by fundamentalist christians. US Middle East foreign policy is dictated by people who seriously believe the ludicrous "end times" stories about the mark of the beast and Armageddon in Israel contained in the book of Revalations.

The rest of the world has a right to be worried.

But this all might be mute. I think if there is a really big attack, a suitcase nuke or something similar, the US will simply self destruct. The US could not survive the paranoid police state & economic disaster which would result from such an event.
