SEO question

Ok lets say I have a site thats got a google pr4 and gets decent traffic

If I add a tgp to that site mysite.com/tgp

and I get the tgp added to chameleon or whatever

will that muck up my pr or search engine placement or improve it potentially?

my idea is that it might draw more traffic to the site and might also expand keywords

any other potential upsides/downsides I'm not seeing?

Thanks in advance

If your new site has a PR lower ranking then yes it can effect and reduce your PR4 site.

This might also help give more information to you.

PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important".

To read more about this, you can go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank

But your pagerank will not be the only factor they look at as they state in their information page "We use more than 200 signals, including our patented PageRank? algorithm, to examine the entire link structure of the web and determine which pages are most important. We then conduct hypertext-matching analysis to determine which pages are relevant to the specific search being conducted. By combining overall importance and query-specific relevance, we're able to put the most relevant and reliable results first."

I think they will still rank each page within the site separately because I just tested this with another site and each page has it's own ranking.
Does this help ?

long term yes it will benefit him but short term getting links from a low ranking page will hurt him and his ratings.

Are you going to link mysite.com to mysite.com/tgp?
If so then some of that PR4 will "leak" out to the new page which will help that page but potentially take a little bit of that Google juice away from the PR4 page. But probably not that much. I would say go for it.

Agreed. Long term, the internal link will help the root domain link as well by adding value. Google for a long time has liked deep sites, particularly if there is deep linking within the domain.

i think google considers webpages separate from domain, thus they look at each page as separate and consider the pages its linking from/sites linking to it.

ie front page can be pr4, but services page can be pr1

no the tgp will be an addon to mysite that would be linked from mysite

I could give it its own domain say mytgp then forward that to mysite/tgp if thats better

Not sure how it influences your PR when you add a subdomain. I dont it matters that much to be honest.

What you should do is put the TGP on yoursite.com/TGP and make a text recip that submitters use that link to both yoursite.com and yoursite.com/TGP
