I like that idea because not only are you sending traffic but your promoting the program through merchandise.

When I finally get a program off the ground i'm going to have something like this for affiliates.

If you are getting in this business for free calendars and tshirts...then you might consider trying another field. Other than my bitchy comment...try contacting the sponsor after you have been bringing them good business for a while.

I'm pretty sure any of the large affiliate programs will provide you with free stuff if you send sales.

Already done that. Always good to see that people have a need to express themselves, and choose these sorts of methods to do so.

You are correct that offering such promotional items to affiliates can have a positive effect on the sponsor -- both via the advertising effects of the items, and increased affiliate satisfaction.

There are companies for whom I bring thousands of dollars in sales each month who have answered "no" to requests for simple items like a company pen or a shirt. Now, of course, not getting such an item isn't going to stop me from selling for them (I'm obviously making a nice profit from all those sales), but I think it does also help maintain a positive sponsor-affiliate relationship.
