Hardware gurus... gimmie a hand!
I need to put together a server that will outdo my current Dual Xeon 2.6, 2GB server.
Right now it looks like I will need 4 of the above servers to be able to handle all of the tasks I want to handle... looks like its all CPU, memory isn't moving much at all (stays at 1.1gb). Anything out there now that would blow away my current setup in a SINGLE machine? Obviously, I would like something cost effective. If it will cost me like 5 grand for a single monster server... versus 1500 each for 2, I would rather buy 2 machines ![]() Let me know guys! |

how about you switch those 2 xeon processors with 2 quad core processors
then its like having 8 cpu's. You can't beat that with multiple servers cost wise.. But there's more then just RAM and CPU how about disk activity and maybe network card load.. There's many things to take in account before to make the right choice for one kick ass server or multiple slower ones..

You can get a good deal from Dell or HP on a server with 4-5 times those specs for under 5k right now.. personally I like HP servers better
