Share your tips for success while working at home.

I think it would be beneficial for us to share our productivity methods while working at home. How do you work best day in and day out to stay reliable and profitable?

Common time wasters: Browsing the net, wanking it more than once per day, zoning out.
Common issues at home: Family, Dogs being let out, phone calls, etc.

One tip from myself is to grin and bear tasks that you aren't too motivated to do by offering yourself some kind of reward in the end. This has worked for homework and will work for business too.

Another tip. Stick to one task at a time. If something you need to do pops up, write it on a notepad for later.

If you feel like it, list yours .

I work from home. My tips are

        1. Stick to one task and dont do any thing else during that time. Its easy to drift to GFY while you are suppose to be coding.
        2. Take a brake and go out of the house. I do the gym around 11 AM and then grab lunch at a local bistro.
        3. Have some weekend activities with friends. Not seeing people face to face and working virtual drives me nuts.

If you masturbate as much as possible. It will keep you from going out and wasting time and money on trying to bang real chicks. This will lead to a lot of time working. Which will lead to great success.

                  This is my #1 secret:

Yep, its a $7 kitchen timer.

I set it for 50 minutes. I do nothing but work for those 50 minutes. I dont check email, I dont answer the phone, I dont answer the door, I dont play videogames, I dont read instant messages (unless its directly related to the work I'm doing, such as with my coders etc), and I dont read forums during that time. Dont try to interrupt me during that time, because i simply wont acknowledge anyone. Thats MY time.

Then i take a 10 minute break, grab something to drink, go the bathroom whatever. Then i do another 50 minute cycle.

After that 50 minutes, I take a 40 minute break. Have a snack, check email, do something in the garage, whatever. This total of 2hrs 30mins is one work unit. Keeps me refreshed and productive, and not bored & burned out. Doing 3 - 5 of these a day, gets alot of shit done.

my thing is I sometimes do too much work and neglect house work, so I actually set timers where I have to break away from work every few hours do 30 minutes of house work and then get back to regular work. Then balancing other things in between.

I have one of these but how do you concentrate ? I will set the timer for 50 min, write code for 15 min then check GFY for 10 min and that 10 turns into 40 min and next I know i have spent 80% of that 50 min surfing GFY

Simply dont go to GFY for 50 minutes?

Surely you can live without GFY for that long?

I use a calender/scheduler to schedule my day. So I put in things like 10am to 11am do task a then 11am to noon do task b ect. I work the same hours every day and try to stay on schedule as much as possible. I take the weekends off (when possible) and make sure to get out of the house when I can. I also break every evening around 5pm and go to the gym. I work out, come home take a shower eat some foot and relax and all of that takes 2-3 hours then I get back to it. My gym break gives me a nice break in the middle of the day and helps keep me fresh.

                              Lists

I've been using notepad to keep my To Do lists of stuff that I want to get done that day. Now, being easily distracted, if something comes up that tempts me to stop my task, I just add it to the list. This lets me gets stuff done, and start looking forward to the more 'interesting' stuff I have setup for later. In the event I do get off-track with the household interruptions, I can get back on track.

I like the timer idea too...I am going to have to try that. Seems like it would be a real productivity booster.

It's really all about not being distracted too much with TV, Computer games, doing shit around the house etc.

I get up much earlier now, get some shit done. Do what i have to do around the house, then back to work again.

It's always worth reminding yourself if you worked in an office you would HAVE to work certain hours without any breaks in between. Try and apply those same rules even in the house. Of course things will crop up and you will take a break, but that's one of the benefits i guess of working from home...

Use a butt plug that doesn't require batteries.

My production went way up once I did that. It's surprising how much time is wasted changing batteries several times/day!

I already have a meditation timer, so I am going to put this idea to use. I have mega focus/distraction issues, and at the end of the day, I can get really down on myself if I have let myself wander around and not been productive as I wanted to be.

                                            Thanks Mr Pheer!
