Whats is like spending 4 years in college and finding out
they taught you to think like everyone else?
i can spot a college idiot from a mile away. the best is when you get a group of college kids from the same class in a group and have a debate and their opinions are all the same (of the professor) and they do not realize it. i just wanted to congratulate some of you fools you spent $xx,xxx+ to be taught to work a 9-5 and not think outside the box. you have made my life so much easier. while you spent 4 years learning bullshit i spent 4 years doing business. then some of you have the nerve to complain when you cant find a job because you dont have any expierience. ![]() ![]() |

![]() This thread is nonsensical.
The OP has it utterly wrong and is clearly displaying his one-dimensional view regarding the scenario of which he speaks. I spent 5+ years in university (inclusive of grad work) so that I could retire at 30 and spend all day on the internet trying my hand at different business models, including adult. Is that a hint of jealously that I'm detecting from the OP? ![]() In any event, college cannot be blamed for prevailing clusters of similar thinkers. Those types of persons would have always conformed to social norms, regardless of the level of education they pursued. Followers are followers. Simple.

spent 4yrs at at Univ of North FL. got a b.s. in information systems (programming). they didnt teach me anything that I didn't already know. half the time I didnt show up for classes just took the exams and did the projects.
for me it was a waste of money, because I already had the skill they were trying to teach me. |

I went back to school at 22 because I kept getting passed over for promotion in favor of people with degrees who would in turn come to me with questions. I got fed up and finally decided to saddle myself with plenty of debt and get my stupid piece of paper.
I finished up with a history major and a political science minor...was going to teach and realized I didn't want to work 70+ for 29K and run the risk of getting knifed at work, so here I am ![]() My degree did get my foot in the door here, and writing term papers has improved my ability to write stilted BS for b2b stuff ![]()

the number of people i know who have gone to college and university for 3-4 years now and still have accomplished nothing, still don't know what to do, etc etc is ridiculous.
honestly, the majority of the more intelligent people I know never went to post secondary at all. and the rest are all sitting in college simply because they can live off mommy and daddy's college savings fund and their student loans. not the case for everyone, but college & university is definitely not educating any type of genious on the grand scale. unless you want to be a doctor or nurse, scientist, or engineer or something that will genuinely require further education, you don't need university. i think one of the worst things to ever happen in this world was making education a business. |

It was a shock, but I guess this is reality.
Altough I've learned a FEW useful things about how things are going in this world, I still think that going to a college was a big waste of time, energy and money. But that itself was a lesson for me, so here I am. ![]() And one more thing: if your daddy is not somebody, forget about going to college... ![]() |

I went to university so that due to proper application of acquired skills (and admittedly a few other natural talents), I now have enough money to do as I please, when I please. The problem with this thread is that the people who have a negative view of college tend to be the very same persons who could never make it in a university setting. And yes, I "wandered" into the realm of adult. I'm a newbie at best and find most of the persons here quite interesting. Perhaps I'll make some extra money from it, but it really doesn't matter as my living has been made already. I do have a few concepts that may come in handy for the overall industry, but we'll see if there is a niche for me to show that. When it comes time to being in an actual business setting and being professional, you could absolutely learn a thing or two. But I'd doubt that because you already have a chip on your shoulder about "college" people. Read this peeps, carefully too... As I said before, there are people who, regardless of educational level, will NEVER make anything of themselves in life. Just because you know a few who went to college does not reflect poorly on tertiary education as a whole. The fact of the matter is that I can show you even more unsuccessful "nobody's" who DIDN'T go to college. The concept of speaking negatively about a University education finds its root in some of the most ignorant thought processes on this planet. Even the most successful persons who didn't go to college are aware of the fact that to get things done, you absolutely must have highly educated people in your corner. Look at persons like Bill Gates or even Oprah. Do you think that they surrounded themselves with college dropouts like they actually were? No. Of course not. And hence my point is proven. Show university education the respect it deserves because even though you have some people who are naturally intelligent and have no need for university, the modern day world was designed by and depends upon the minds of those who focused on educating themselves. Let's see you go to a doctor who never went to university or drive on a highway that was designed by someone who didn't have a college level education. I rest my case. Save the insults for someone who is actually worthy of them. And no, I don't think that I'm better than anyone who didn't go to college, but when someone dares to insult my level of education to due their own ignorance, that's just pitiful.

Education never hurts. The problem is that most people go to school not to learn, but rather just to get their degree or certificate, so they can start working.

college is not for everyone... it depends on your career path and you're learning curve. I was always an average by the book student but in the real world thinking outside of the box and being creative, I kick ass. With that said look at the business i'm in, Internet/Computer biz. American society tells you you're nothing without a college degree until proven other wise.
now if i wanted to be a rocket scientist i probably would need college. but, i'm self taught went to college for 4yrs got a degree in my field and gained nothing but a nice fat bill. but my mom is happy that i went so thats all that matters |

On the flip side you could join the military, do a 4-6 year hitch and also learn a trade, dunno if they still do it that way, but my uncle and dad both left as certified electricians. I think there are a number of unions(pipe fitters, electricians, curb and gutter, etc.) that do low paying apprenticeships these days as well... granted this isn't a degree, but it is education. however, as with both paths laid out in this thread above, it would require ambition to do something with yourself after that point. Execution, whether you are college educated or not, is everything.

You're completely right,
I spent 7 years at the college and 99 pct. of the people there are sheep, no matter what specialization. They're manufacturing qualified monkeys.

When I was 28 I got bored and went to college full time just to see what the fuss was about, mainly to check out the girls...lol.
When you are 28 and go to college it's almost embarrassing how easy it is once you've worked in the real world. It's pretty much a joke. People go to college when they are 18 and they remember it as being difficult. A bachelors degree is TOTALLY worthless. A masters degree gives you a bit of useful info, but not much. A PHD is the only thing worth anything.

the above statement is not true you can always lie and say you went to college, unless they work in your hr department who cares. also there are losers from both sides of the track, some people benefit from college some don't. If the end goal is money and not happiness then your probably fucked anyway. I don't make alot of money but I look at porn all day while im getting paid. I went to college but wether i did or didn't I would of ended up in the same place. Happy.

It's easy for webmasters to say that college is a waste of time, especially if you've been doing this for several years. A lot of us started before colleges even taught this stuff, so it's very hard to justify going now.
Sometimes I'll see some kid say on a forum that he wants to go to college for web design and whatnot, but I never respond to them. From my side of the fence, again, having been here since pre-boom era, it's hard to say how new people should go about it nowadays. |

The college group earns more than the non-college group, but I believe this is a case of the chicken or the egg. Fact is, college grads were on the road to success before they even got to college. They have a heightened intelligence and usually family money. That in itself is a recipe for success. And it just so happens that people in that position usually go to college, thus making the college vs. no college income data appear a certain way.

Having College degree is good backup plan if your bussinesses fail at one moment, you can always go to job and earn good money enough to make a good living.
Not having a backup plan is a stupidity. That's how I felt about it for all my life and it came true so many times you can't even think. Also you can waste every amount of money, not matter how much you have, just by making bad bussiness decisions. People who wrote such bad things about college degree, are those who have no way back now, if their bussinesses will fail they will get totally screwed and left with nothing. You will have your degree for life, say the same about money. |

Well, it's not true that college doesn't give you anything!
It gives you a nervious brakedown after 4 years mental abuse from teachers/professors and learning useless stuff you don't need in your life (in 99% cases at least). I wish I didn't waste 5 years of my life with that shit just to please my parents. |
