Pop off the hard drive and the face plate, they send you a box, ship it and a few weeks later, you have a rebuilt one

Not going to read through the whole thread to see if someone has suggested this already, but if they haven't check out Craigslist. Two of my buddies got red ringed for the second time (Microsoft only warranties the first) and they found a local guy who repaired them for $50. Hope you get it fixed! I have been lucky thus far and not received the red rings of death.

My xbox is close to dieing, it has the 3 red lights but if i take out the mains and plug it back in it works but i doubt it has long left. Since i bought a PS3 i have not touched my xbox anyway. PS3 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 360.

360 for the win simply because of Halo ;)
But seriously this local guy fixed it in under 6 hours for $50. Better than waiting weeks for Microsoft to warranty it.

I got mine back within 13 days from the time I requested a box until I got it back. This was about 6 weeks ago. The also gave me a 1 year warranty on everything and 30 days XBOX Live Gold. I saved the box in case I have to send it in again I won't have to wait 3-4 days for the box.

buying a warrenty service isn't smart. wasted money. The RROD or 3 red lights is covered under a 3 year warranty. the amount of oney you'd spend on the warenty over 3 years you could buy you a brand new XBOX.
