I just saw a family packed in a mini van going door to door offering to shovel driveways. They got twenty bucks from my neighbor to clear out a big drive way, walk way and side walk.

but consumer spending was up in Jan. Even if unemployment goes to 10 percent that still means alot of people are still working making a living. The media isnt helping its like the daily horror show.

I apologize if that's what it seemed like I was saying. I completely agree that countless honest people are suffering due to this recession/depression. My statement was geared more toward business owners, not employees.

I have a $200k line of credit on my house as a second mortage. If things get worse (for me) I will write myself a check and take all my money our and let the bank take my house.

It will kind of be like selling my house to the bank at 2004 prices, even though they don't really want to buy it.

I have been to the las vegas airport 3 times in the last month, it's soooo slow. I have never seen anything like it.

I just don't understand why retailers, airlines, resturants and grocery stores ect.....don't lower the prices. Vegas is still charging the same amount for rooms. Valentines night the "better" holtels were still around 450-500 for that night.

It's so depressing, I just try to find thing's to do that don't cost alot of money.

Thats still a business model that should not exist, and that's being in business and relying on loans.

I bet you don't get as many "you've been pre-approved for a platinum card!" junk mails in your mail boxes as you used to.
None of them have credit to give you!

I'm not so concerned about the economy as much as I am of what the government may be doing to the people once it collapses.

I am a member of a private forum that traders/economists use. The owner just won a pretty big award for his reporting on the economy. Every trading day he keeps a locked thread going where he posts what is happening on the markets literally up to the second. Here is the post he just made:

Back over 20:1 A/D, heading for 30:1 at this rate.

                          That's simply unbelievable.

There is just no strength and no resiliance anywhere. I am unfortunately coming to the opinion that we're simply done - economically, politically and otherwise.

SPX 300 is looking more and more likely.

This crisis is just for us rich developed countries. It is an everyday reality and even worse in most 3rd world countries.

I am not worried so much for myself as I am for my parents who live off of their investments. They are living on less and less these days.
