So we get a letter we owe $1400 and change in state taxes. My wife says I wrote them a check for that in october.I said go look it up and sure enough they cashed it. So my wife calls and they are like oh look at that you paid and it wasnt moved to where it should of been. call us back in 30 days to make sure it was done. Why it takes 30 days I dont understand.
Now I wonder how many people just get a bill like that and just pay it.

I've gotten some government bills and it was the same story... anytime you get a bill that you don't understand why you are getting it, always follow up.

the bank did something like this to me recently - i noticed a money transfer out of my account and it was not small, not huge either, low hundreds, and i couldn't think of what this expense/fee was so i called them. they copped to an 'error' - i wonder how many of these 'errors' are really errors and not banks just stealing money from people who don't pay close attention.
I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting. I've saved money, my hair is thicker, lost some weight too! Thanks Sly!

I got the same thing today, but for $2600!

I called the city, and its regarding a reseller license that I set up 4 years ago, but I closed the account. They said "best option is to pay the balance, then file documents to make sure its closed and get your money back." yeah, my ass im sending you a dime

Notice how these errors never have money coming into your account. It's just like the grocery store. I have caught the register overcharging for items many many times. But never ever have I seen the register ring up an item for less than the listed price. Fuckers.

I hope I owe taxes to the state this year. For refunds, they are handing out IOUs. If I owe money, I'm sending them a fucking IOU.

My son's gf paid off an old credit card debt over 20 months ago. Went straight into the bank and paid it in cash, got a bank receipt. She then had to fax that to the bank's office that had contacted her about the old debt. They told her everything was cleared.

She went months later to open a bank account at a different bank. They told her she had something on her history that wouldn't allow it. The company they told her to call told her that this old debt wouldn't drop off.

About 3 months ago, she gets a nasty letter from a collection agency who had bought the bad debt a month or so before. By this time she'd lost the receipt from the bank that showed she paid it. Agency told her without proof, they didn't care and she'd have to pay it to them. She called the bank and got no where. Finally walked into the branch and gave the woman the old card number. She looks on the computer. Goes and pulls out a file folder and sitting there was the information about her payment.

Seems even with the account number in hand, they never knew where to apply the money so rather than try to contact her (they obviously had the mailing address because they sold it to the collection company), they just let it sit.
