    Why do we use ICQ?

    I've had ICQ installed in various computers since the mid 90's ( it feels).
    Why are we still using such an old message system, almost all adult webmasters use it. What's so great about it?
    I can barely connect to the server, never mind trying to change settings on my profile. I can't do that for the love of fuck.
    Just wondurrin...

      Good question. Maybe because we are addicted to the horrible sound when someone is contacting you:-) On the other hand I know when my icq goes off that it is business related, when it is one of the others it is personal and probably not urgent.

              i think it's so we can talk to ourselves... I notice when I'm using it, I'm saying the same thing a few times before I type it... And I can type at a decent speed. But I guess I do that here even more... man what a frickin waste of time both of these are.... ;)

                              I use AIM (iCHAT) way more than ICQ but because so many people in the industry use it I have to have an account and have it open all day...

                                              I always figured it's because nobody wants their e-mail address published all over forums, websites etc due to the risk (guarantee) that they'll get spammed to buggery. The main alternative is probably MSN Messenger and that uses e-mail addresses for user IDs / logins.

                                                  yeah the history feature is the #1 reason. plus almost everyone in this industry uses it, faults and all. I don't see ICQ going away from adult anytime soon.

                                                          Some of it, I think, is because it has been around for a while. Back when I first started in this biz it was really the only good IM type of program so it was what everyone used. I think sticking with it is just easier for most people than changing. I have had a few business contacts tell me they have changed to other services so maybe there is a slow change beginning.

                                                                                      So it's less likely that you will get someone trying to contact you, just for meaningless chatter that will waste your time. ( just my )

                                                                                                          Same, I can have 7 conversations on the go, and be working on 3 different things... but once that damn phone rings, everything stops until I hang it up.

                                                                                                          If it's a meeting or something I need to give my attention to, fine... but otherwise, my world just came to a screeching halt just cause someone's unable to articulate themselves well enough in text form.

                                                                                                                                      i use skype mostly. i loathe and ignore icq but keep an account on my adium open in case someone leaks through thats important. otherwise, as far as IMing goes i'm in the 2009 era and am on skype w/ video. this industry needs to get with the plan. and its secure. /whine.
