Rich Dad Poor Dad. Its a good book. Read it.

Basically some people are not raised to be aware of the value of money.

He has chosen not to reply to potential advertisers from both mainstream and adult sites quite a few times.

If you want to make money, you respond to those offering you money. You definitely don't completely ignore people who express interest.

If you're not willing to put effort into something, you don't actually want it. Because if you actually want something, you put in some effort.

I am not talking about the "I want to win the lottery" kind of wanting. I'm talking about the "I want to lose weight, therefore I eat healthy food and work out regularly" kind of wanting.

How are you not getting this?

anyway, what if he just posted a text on the bottom: 'my paypal is [email protected]'

you think PP would have a problem with it? it's not like he would be soliciting for payments/donations

Have you checked out the site, it doesn't seem like paypal material. My guess is that the account would be canceled very quickly for multiple infractions. :2 cents:

polish_aristocrat 02-18-2009 02:23 PM

you'd think he'd at least have the drive to cover his bandwidth expenses. as opposed to moving back in with mom and racking up $20k on his creditcards...

I'll just leave it at this, I'm tired of wasting my time responding to you when you CLEARLY can not comprehend the words I'm writing.

Going by JUST the Article ALONE the claim is "I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO MAKE MONEY / I NEVER COULD MAKE MONEY" I quote that and you just go back to him "not wanting to make money"

and unless you yourself are moot you do not know what he knows or doesn't know, and therefore can not say for certain what exactly the boy wants/ does not want.

I'm done, I've made my points, even if their ignored or not understood

From a more recent interview:

Quote:

Q: How much does it cost to run the site?

A: About $6,000 per month. That's actually not too bad for a site that is all rich media and has 300 million pageviews. I don't have any overhead past that. I don't have any employees. I don't have an office.

Q: Are you making your money back?

A: Just barely. We're trying to convince advertisers that our community is worth their ad dollars. That's been a really uphill battle because of our content. Advertisers will Google us and see that we're huge, but they'll also see all these threats and hacks. It scares them away. Overcoming that stigma is difficult.

It seems he is trying to monetize 4chan after all, at least according to him. :2 cents:

pocketkangaroo 02-18-2009 06:08 PM

All he has to do is sell text link ads on some of his major categories. Guarantee to pull $10k a month. Sell 10 hardlinks in each of these categories at $100-$200/month.

- Travel
- Health and Fitness
- Sports
- Tech
- Music
- Auto
- TV and Film
- Food

Some of those categories are some of the biggest in the text link market. Just opening up the sports section to hardlinks would find probably 100 ticket brokers and handicapping sites lining up to buy.

Why would I go by just the article alone when I have actually tried to buy advertising on 4chan a bunch of times, with varying levels of success in even getting replies?

very interesting article only in that it reveals who is behind 4chan - a very uninteresting quiet 21 year old. the kid needs to find himself a partner who is more entrepeurnially minded than him - there has to be a way to make money off that site. all those 4chan surfers go to movies, play video games, eat fast food, etc - he's got to sell some major corporations on that and sell some adspace.

same with facebook - i look at the crappy ads on it - Hollywood movie studios and record companies, beverage makers, etc should be paying millions for prime facebook advertising space. all i see on facebook are some crappy Google type ads on the side - that probably have a microscopic click rate.

Facebook ads makes 100's of millions a year, it works much like google adwords. Why sell ads to a few high profile companies and if one drops you you're in the shit when you can sell to thousands of advertisers?

lol @ porn ads on 4chan. Some do buy actually, and just consider that as their donation to 4chan. Run troll like donation drives on /b/ to click and sign up for porn ads, but I'm sure some do or get tricked into doing it.

What 4chan needs to advertising is hosting. 4chan is a bunch of computer science nerds. Hosting is relevant to them and something they can support. The hosting company will just host the site for free for the advertisement. Moot doesn't have anymore bills and he can focus on getting a job and paying his debt or maybe sell more adspace.

To those to don't pay attention to 4chan... I'm sorry. There's more to it than just /b/, and if you're on at the right time, some real brilliance can come out of /b/. This community is a growing force in the media and culture. They should be recognized.

Good point. Porn definitely isn't the best thing to be advertising there. Everyone who visits that site knows about tubes, torrents, rapidshare, etc.

Hosting is a decent alternative, but things like dating, dating guides, sex toys, etc. could also work. And of course mail order brides - conversions are low, but payouts are awesome :)
